Just to confuse you/me/us further, an "L4" is not a ONE XL-S but a "ONE XL - 1GB TTS" so should run on 8.010 BUT this model only has 1GB internal memory & NO card slot and I've never heard of a "sticky saying maps were pre installed"
I don't know what device you have but it sounds like a mongrel/hybrid to me.

1. 9.205 has been recommended.
2. Obviously it DOES have a card slot.
3. He should have said "sticker", not "sticky".

Agree, the "what have I got" on TT site does indeed say it's what you posted. I got the ONE XL-S from the reporting of TT Home.
Yup, does have a memory slot.. Go figure. I couldn't bitch to much being as I paid $15 for it at a yard sale. ;-)
Thanks BiggerDave and tendriver for all your help and info. Was a busy night so still haven't had a chance to do the update and the site will only let me download one part of the map per night. <sigh> (YES, I'm an original COB <- Cheap Old BAST@#D) <LOL> I've even got the patch to prove it. ;-)

Yet another dumb question. Is there by chance another link to D/L maps that will let me get all of the pieces at once without being out of pocket? Got part1.e x e last night, went for part2.r a r and it told me I was trying to download to many files at one time and to try later. Mind you, part1 had finished some 30 mins before I tried to get part2..
I'll try to get part2 tonight, part3 tomorrow, etc..
Like I said, I'm a COB for sure. <LOL>
Still also digging for my 4gig SD card. It probably ended up in one of the kids game systems. <LOL>

1. I apologize, but no.
2. Take off you COB hat & go buy a new 4GB for less than $10. LOL

OK, got the system file, got the navcore file, got all 8 parts for the North America 875.3613 maps.
I get I need to put the system file on my device and reboot.
Questions:
1. I take it I need to unzip all 7 of the RAR files, one is a . e x e file or does the .e x e file unzip and compile the other 7 files?
2. After I reboot with the new system file, do I need to run the navcore before messing with the map file(s)?
3. Can I just delete the current maps from the map folder and copy the maps over?
I want to get this right the first time. :-)
Thanks in advance!

A. I get I need to put the system file on my device and reboot.

A. Correct. This is necessary to allow your unit to use SDHC cards.
1. The .exe takes care of the other 7 parts.
2. I would autoinstall the navcore to the card before I loaded the map.
3. Why is there a map on a new card? Remove the ENTIRE old map folder. When you autoinstall the new map, it will create it's own folder. REMEMBER to copy your device's ttgo.bif file to the card before you load the map.

OK,, got it.. That's for the reassurance. Nope, nothing on the new SD card. I did try to run the navcore to the TT but found out that was a mistake. <LOL> Thank goodness for backups. :-)
Got the instructions printed out and I'll get to it in a bit.. I'll let you know how it goes.
MANY thanks!

Well YAHOO!!! It works!!!!!! FINALLY got a few minutes to do everything, per a very detailed set of instructions posted by another member, and IT WORKS!!
Wish I could remember who originally posted these instructions but they are very detailed that even a idiot like me could follow them. THANK you Tendriver for all your assistance and patience! Man what a GREAT site!
Yet another case closed :-)

How to update a TomTom
1/ Back up: Copy everything you have from your GPS into computer or any other back up place
- In Windows Explorer, go to Tool/Folder option and check the option to show all the Hidden files.
- Now connect your gps with the computer (if you haven't done it already), you'll be surprised there will be HIDDEN files you don't want to miss for back up.
- Ctrl A to select all and Copy them and Paste them onto back up location
2/Load Navcore onto the GPS( onto the SD card to be exact ---> 4GB recommended)
- After DONE backing up, put your card into the gps that is connected to the computer.
- Depending on the situation, your Tom Tom might turn on and ask you to connect it to computer, just choose YES
- Now assuming you already download the Navcore (the one I used it SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices) and the Map (mine is North America 870.3406_Installer)
- Go back to the Backup place to copy and put the file "ttgo.bif" on the card.
- Run the Navcore and choose the drive of your gps/SD card recognized (eg. Drive D and wait until finish.
- When it says FINISH or DONE, safely disconnect the gps from the computer then turn the GPS on. ** I think this is important, you have to turn it on so that it boot from the new system and it will generate some file that later this file will be read and patched!
*Note: As far as I know, the Navcore you download in this forum is already patched so you basically done half way.
- You might get a RED notice saying there is no map. Turn off the gps and connect it to the computer again.
3/ Load map
- Now run the executive file of the map package and choose the drive of your gps/SD card recognized (eg. Drive D hit Go or Run and wait for it to finish.
- When done, navigate in Windows Explorer to your gps/SD card, now here is what I did:
- There should be an autoactive.exe file on it already and what you need to do is to patch the map before it can be used. I didn't use the autoactive but I went and found the fast active (the light version) on the internet and I copied it onto the card and run it (then it will ask you to click the 2 buttons, just click both)
- Then this step that I don't know if necessary but I did it anyway, I copy the fast active.exe in the the map folder, name should be something like "North_America_870_3406" and I run that fast active.exe again.
- Eventually, the map now will be patched, but it's not done, yet, or at least for me
4/Voice
- When I get to this point, I didn't have any voice on the gps, it will display a RED notice when you turn it on
- After struggling with all the post in this forum and google, I found out that you just only copy the Voice folder that you backed up and place it onto the card (the root folder which means it's not inside any other folder)
- Now my gps has voice!

Oh yea,, TT Home gives me a message, something about a device miss match with the navcor, or something but it still lets me D/L voices and other things..
Is this something that can be fixed or just don't worry about it?

To fix version error.
Open the ttgo.bif file with Notepad.
Replace lines 9 & 10 with these:
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
ApplicationVersion=9369
Save this change by clicking "File" in the upper left corner of windows explorer, then "Save as" ttgo.bak. At this point, there is only a ttgo.bak file in the root, no ttgo.bif.
Disconnect & reboot. Now you will have a ttgo.bak, a ttgo.bif & a ttgo.ori file in the root & no error message.
