Evening all,

Made some progress with the installation.

Got the map provided by fredderf working using the updated system file and navcore files. :-)

Incidentally, the only card I could get to work was a SD Flash 2GB. All of the cards that failed were SDxx, including a 2GB SDHC card which the GO300 wouldn't even recognize as a valid card, and this was using the updated 5.5128 bootloader.

So I moved onto downloading the 1135_12405 UK map suggested by biggerdave, using TTActivator (&.net 4). The command I used is below.

TTActivator.exe download-map -r "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland" -v "1135" -k "nav3" -t "%TEMP%" -o "%CD%"

I manually copied the folder and files into the root of the SD card and went through the fastactivate procedure making sure to run as admin and update the meta file. Update maps, then navcore.

I now get the dreaded 'no maps found' message on the nav.

fastactivate output below. dct comes back as OK so the meta is available.

If I've understood correctly, I should be able to activate with fastactivate....

That 1135_12405 UK map is actually a NAV3 map (and the only one that you could use as it's the only NAV1/2/3 UK map we have a meta for) so it needs to run on any >9.0xx navcore which then needs to be patched but you're making progress for sure

The newest navcore I can run is 7.9 according to the thread below. So presumably there is another kung-fu step that I'm missing that will allow a 7.x system to read the map.

Presumably I'm looking for some sort of cross-compiler for maps.

The 7.903 navcore and the 1110 map I've provided is the latest official setup for your device and will be the most stable. Personally, I would add the postcodes, the speedcams, do a full backup and call it good.

If you want to use the 1135 NAV3 map, you'll need to find specially modified 9.0xx navcore that will run reliably on your old Go300 and prepare for some experimentation and disappointment. Considering your device is as old as the hills and worth about tuppence, I wouldn't bother, but it's up to you.

As fredderf says, the 7.903 is indeed the latest OFFICIAL (and therefore theoretically, the most reliable) navcore for that device but if you want to run a NAV3 map which many are now doing on there you MUST use a >9.0xx navcore. There is no alternative if you want a NAV3 map.
Maybe if you've time try experimenting with a few different 9.xxx navcores or try a search around for what 9.xxx others are using. Maybe start with a 9.051?

LOL. This made my day. You're right of course ... The great thing about 'trailing edge tech' is that it's cheap and no one will break into your car to steal it.

I carried on digging around the forum after I posted last night and came across the thread below on 'universal navcore installer'. The penny dropped and I now understand what biggerdave was hinting at. But if it's not going to be stable then I'll stick with official navcores.

On a final note, how often do the meta codes come up for new UK maps for my navcore; every few months or is it years?
Do you just have to keep checking the forum pages for a match?
Presumably, once you get a match for you map code, is that good in perpetuity (all future map releases), or do they go out of date?

New maps are released every quarter and each meta code is unique to the map it relates to. You can keep an eye on the forum to see if a meta code gets released for a suitable map for your navcore...or even to share what you've learnt to help out other people keep their devices updated.

TT release new maps every 3 months so quarterly and Aug saw the current 1135 maps so Nov is next release which we assume would be 1140 (as fredderf has just pipped me at the post with same info)
Cracking/activating "unofficial" maps always needs the appropriate meta (unique for every single map & map version) and we rely on the generosity of those who are entitled to the latest version through "life-time" maps or at least having actually bought the map & then creating/sharing their meta(s) with us.
fredderf is just being understandably cautious with his warning but there are literally thousands of users running non-standard navcores with their "unofficial" maps with good stability/reliability & very few problems so don't sweat/fret. if you do bust it then someone can normally get you up & running again anyway

There is a page on this forums that lists all the latest official navcores for your nav hardware type. I remember seeing it and my 300 was on it but can't find it again. Does anyone have a link please? The sticky says use TT Home, but that assumes the device is still supported. Got rid of the horrible green startup screen and put a Monet picture up there with the map date. It's splash.bmp in root. Must be 24 bit 240x320.

You can alway,s try the next file with te latest map of the UK download and unpack. Make a backup of your device and place the unpacked files and folders on the device. Start the device till you got the
message you can,t use the map. Activate the map and hopefully everythinks works.

In the worst case send me your ttgo.bif file and I will make a complete working file for you including navcore 9.510 which I will then place on my server and send you a link.
If it has not been done yet a bootloader update is also necessary to be able to use SDHC cards number 10 up to 32GB.

That means first providing the bootloader with an update and then you can put the whole world on your system

But be sure to have a complete working backup of your system as it is now

I'm amazed that you've managed to get a map from 2024 onto a device that's 19 years old.

1135_12405 is now working with the audio as well.

Kudos to all who helped with this project. I have a map for every occasion now. :-)
