Upgrade XL?

Upgrade XL?

Postby Lido45 » Wed Apr 06, 2011 1:17 pm

Good afternoon

First, my apologies for posting this. I do assure you that I have searched in the stickies, but I am afraid I still don't get what to do in what order, and what everything does.

I have:
TomTom XL (when I connect it to my PC the PC says One XL v9).
Application 8.010
Operating system 190943
32 MB RAM (3,0 free)
GPS 1.21, boot 5.5011
Map: western/central europe 7.25

I have just downloaded map 865.3246 (not via this forum).

I understand navcore is the core operating system (190943 in the above? Or 8.010?)
Do I need to upgrade this first in order to be able to use the new card?

What exactly do I need to do next and what does it do?

Please, rest assured, I am not lazy, I am by no means asking you to waste your precious time on spelling everything out for me, I am sure it has been written in stickies that I must have overlooked, so if somebody would be willing to just tell me the high level steps (first you do 1, this for x, then you do 2, that is for y, etc) and could next refer me to the tutorial for each step then I will study it myself.

Thank you very much for your help :kiss_mini:

Bye,

EDIT:
I have found two threads:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2531-How-to-update-a-32mb-Widescreen-TomTom-Device

Mine is a widescreen, and it has 32 MB of ram (I take it that is what is meant in the 32 mb in the above thread). What is written in that thread is overly simple, so even I could do that ;-) But it says I should use 'Autoactivate', whereas in other threads 'Easytools' is referenced? Furthermore, can my device go to navcore 9.205? I thought from the overview table my device sticks with navcore 8.x?

Then, in this thread:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?992-How-to-use-Easyusetools

There is a whole sequence of things to do with those 'easytools', should I do that? And in the signature of that post is also 'Tomtom Flash tool', 'fast activate' and 'keygen 4.1D'. Do I need these?

And here:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?5021-Very-new-and-very-lost...

I should use 'fastactivate' and be done with it.

Help? (peep?)

All you need is to install the map, after that patch the Navcore and activate the map.
Both can be done with FastActivate.
I hope you made a backup with the Windows Explorer...

Thank you for your reply :D

1. Install the map. How do I do that? I couldn't find sticky for it?
2. Do I need to upgrade Navcore first? If so, can I use the 9.x navcore with my Tomtom XL v9?
3. Per this thread:

Code: Select all
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2531-How-to-update-a-32mb-Widescreen-TomTom-Device

Mine is a widescreen, and it has 32 MB of ram (I take it that is what is meant in the 32 mb in the above thread). This thread applies to me or not? Should I download these two files (they are quite old)?

4. Fast activate. Per this thread:

Code: Select all
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?5239-FastActivate-ENG-28.03.2011-1.8.6.6

Should I use the light or the premium one?

5. Do I still need to write down all sorts of codes first (I saw this in a different thread but am not sure if it still valid?)?

Thank you very much for your help :D

1. Cut the old map folder out of your memory & copy the new map folder in.
2. Go here: TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation Read the instructions carefully. select SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices.rar (Widescreen ONLY)
3. See step 2.
4. See the instructions referred to in step 2.
5 If you are referring to meta codes then NO. They are included in step 2.

Thank you for your reply :D

I seem to be running into a new problem: I don't have enough space on the TT(?)

The whole TT is 2 GB, but the map I downloaded is 2,3 GB.

Do I need to delete some of the new files? But even if I delete all the cspeech* files I don't have enough free space (still 2,1 GB needed).

I have attached two screenshots. EDIT no, they are too large. I have uploaded them to an image host.

Ah, bullocks, I have waited hours and hours for that map to download, now, for some reason, it indeed is 300 MB too big. This is what it says on the TT website:

[Please Register or Login to download file]

Now I need to find me the proper map and start downloading it again :-(

Sigh. I have found the answer. TT is to blame. Western and central Europe no longer fits on my One XL. I now have to install "map zones":

Or a different map, do you really need the full WCE map?
Central Europe is only 822mb...

I think I will have to download Western europe_865_3256 (1,7GB) per this thread:

It worked for 99%; the above steps were all that was needed, so thank you very much, tendriver :-)

The only thing that didn't work was restore the favorites; copying my old mapsettings.cfg per this thread: http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2156-How-To-Keep-your-Favorites-When-Upgrading-Map. Since then it came into a permanent rebooting loop, and using the trick of using TT Home to manual set one favorite also didn't work because TT home said something like 'this map can't be used with this device'. Simply deleting the newly copied mapsettings.cfg made that problem go away. So, my upgrade worked for 99%, only my favorites are lost. But who cares as long as the sun shines :-)

Thank you again for your help.

A little different version of the info in the link in your post 12 above. It works if done correctly.

1. rebooting after a map update or changes to some map related files like POI's.

It is a common problem caused by the file "mapsettings.cfg" in your map folder.
To get a correct version of this file without loosing your favorites connect your Tomtom to
Tomtom Home and use "operate my Go" to manually add a favorite - you can choose any address you like.
Exit and restart your Tomtom which now has a rewritten "mapsettings.cfg" file.
If everything works fine you can delete the newly added "dummy" favorite.

Thanks tendriver :D

Even if done correctly it doesn't work :-)

1. Copy old mapsettings.cfg
2. TT keeps on rebooting
3. Start TT Home > operate my TT > 'This map can't be used'.
4. Delete the newly copied mapsettings.cfg again > everything works again.

3. It appears that you haven't patched TT Home.
