Both can be done with FastActivate.
I hope you made a backup with the Windows Explorer...

1. Install the map. How do I do that? I couldn't find sticky for it?
2. Do I need to upgrade Navcore first? If so, can I use the 9.x navcore with my Tomtom XL v9?
3. Per this thread:
- Code:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2531-How-to-update-a-32mb-Widescreen-TomTom-Device
Mine is a widescreen, and it has 32 MB of ram (I take it that is what is meant in the 32 mb in the above thread). This thread applies to me or not? Should I download these two files (they are quite old)?
4. Fast activate. Per this thread:
- Code:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?5239-FastActivate-ENG-28.03.2011-1.8.6.6
Should I use the light or the premium one?
5. Do I still need to write down all sorts of codes first (I saw this in a different thread but am not sure if it still valid?)?
Thank you very much for your help :D

2. Go here: TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation Read the instructions carefully. select SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices.rar (Widescreen ONLY)
3. See step 2.
4. See the instructions referred to in step 2.
5 If you are referring to meta codes then NO. They are included in step 2.

The only thing that didn't work was restore the favorites; copying my old mapsettings.cfg per this thread: http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2156-How-To-Keep-your-Favorites-When-Upgrading-Map. Since then it came into a permanent rebooting loop, and using the trick of using TT Home to manual set one favorite also didn't work because TT home said something like 'this map can't be used with this device'. Simply deleting the newly copied mapsettings.cfg made that problem go away. So, my upgrade worked for 99%, only my favorites are lost. But who cares as long as the sun shines :-)
Thank you again for your help.

tendriver wrote:A little different version of the info in the link in your post 12 above. It works if done correctly.
1. rebooting after a map update or changes to some map related files like POI's.
It is a common problem caused by the file "mapsettings.cfg" in your map folder.
To get a correct version of this file without loosing your favorites connect your Tomtom to
Tomtom Home and use "operate my Go" to manually add a favorite - you can choose any address you like.
Exit and restart your Tomtom which now has a rewritten "mapsettings.cfg" file.
If everything works fine you can delete the newly added "dummy" favorite.

Even if done correctly it doesn't work :-)
1. Copy old mapsettings.cfg
2. TT keeps on rebooting
3. Start TT Home > operate my TT > 'This map can't be used'.
4. Delete the newly copied mapsettings.cfg again > everything works again.
