Very old TT XL V9

Very old TT XL V9

Postby AtariFox » Fri Oct 09, 2020 7:07 pm

Hi there. I registered recently to ask about my specific tomtom, as there's many models of this specific type.

It is a TomTom XL with 1GB internal storage and 32mb memory, it has no SD slot. USB 1.1 interface with awful transfer speed.

I wanted to update the maps at least, as they were last updated in 2013.

It has the UK and Ireland maps, and france maps.

It also doesnt keep time anymore. Resets to 00:00 all the time even after gps fix update

But it's not exactly clear what i am supposed to do to update it. I've looked at some guides but there's no real clear walkthrough. I don't really want to mess with apps or bootloaders. I dont think it can use a later navcore. If i recall this is only a 400mhz model.

My TT details are
App 8.083 (9669/090817) OS:34369

ttgo.bif:
DeviceName=TomTom XL
DeviceVersionHW=ONE XL (v9)
DeviceSerialNumber=RMxxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=55128
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8083
ApplicationVersion=9669
CurrentMap=United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland
CurrentMapVersion=920.5267

Map(s):
e:\United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland\

Storage:
Size 973MB, Free 757MB

The clock continually resetting to 0:00 can be permanently fixed by a firmware flash...or there's a simpler workaround here

Of course you can leave your navcore the way it is as it's obviously stable for you, so all you need to do is to download UK & ROI 1055.10415 from here

So i just drag and drop the map files over the ones i have, installed? No messing with meta files, patching cores and such?

Same thing with the france ones? (if i decide to put them back on the unit)

Also is there a list to custom POI's? I had mcdonalds, hospitals, and some other things on this satnav i cant update too.

No, you need to extract the new map to your device and then activate it with FastActivate.
The instructions are provided but in a nutshell extract the new map folder & FastActivate.exe to the root of your device > run FA and select option 2 to activate the map > then select option 3 to patch the navcore to accept downloaded maps > after seeing the successful messages you can disconnect from the PC and test.

Yes, it's the same process with any other map

We always have the latest SpeedCam files but you will need to search google for POI's like McDonalds etc

Hi there fredderf, I've copied the maps over and ran fast activate from the internal memory after updating meta.txt it seems like it's gone alright.

Do i leave my old map folder on there, or remove it?

I also did a firmware flash and it still resets the clock.

I think i left the other fix on there.

Ok, good.

That's up to you, it won't do any harm staying there but I'd probably back it up somewhere and than delete it from your XL.

I've never heard of the flash failing...

Yeah, I'm not actually sure it's flashing anything. I put the file on. It does the "Now flashing" then switches off almost a second or two later.

3.25 and 3.60 same results. How can i tell?

To double check the chipset, hold down the power button until you see the BIOS screen...against chipset you'll see either sirf star or global locate?

Alright. I'll do that. However i'm getting a blinked red X now, though i've cleared the device, and re-added everything. Re-patched and stuff. Not sure whats up with it.
(i was but redoing the original backup fixed it, i must have missed a file)

I'm not sure if the bios flashed properly or.. i've messed it up. But it says GL2. I assum ethis flash thing is not for my device, therefore.. no fix for the WNRO?

Yes, as mentioned on the page, the firmware update is for Sirf Star chipsets only so that's why the flash didn't work.

Yours says GL2 which is the Global Locate chipset which is usually fixed using Treysis's workaround, however some people have needed to change the navcore to fix it...there's more information on the Treysis page about that.

The following link is an updated navcore for the One XL with the WNRO already fixed which you can try, just make sure you do a full backup of your current system (showing hidden files & folders) in case you want to revert:

Thank's Fredderf. I'll get back to you in a day or two and let you know if it works. :023:

Okay so i tried it. But it's really quite slow for about five minutes, the device gets quite warm.
Then it seems to become responsive. Battery drain is quite high it seems.

Update:
I copied back my backup, but added in the files from the wnro fix to it.
and it seeeeems to have fixed it.
Fingers cross.

I don't know why the Treysis workaround didn't work in the first place but it's good to hear it's ok now.

Can confirm, the fix works now.
Satnav's keeping it's data and keeps the time when hard powered off.

Thanks for all the help fredderf :023:
