Voice instructions & Sound lost in SE Navcores

Thu Jun 09, 2011 11:37 am

Hi,

I have upgraded my TT One XL (32 MB Device) to SE 9.051.503855 navcore. Everything works well except the voice instructions. Voice instructions do work till the TT comes across motorway exists showing lane images. As soon as TT starts showing lane images it loses all voice instructions and sound. The map I'm using is 870.3460. I've tried using navcore SE 9.026.483454 as well. It's the same.

I've formatted the SD Card before installing navcores. Tried different voices, switching voice guidance on and off but no luck so far. When TT loses sound and voice instructions if I shut it down it restarts instead of shutting down. When it restarts sounds and voice instructions work again. This suggests to me that TT is resetting itself when it loses sound and voice instructions. If the journey doesn't involve motorways and lane images are not shown everything work fine till the end of the journey and if I shut the TT down it simply shuts down without restarting.

By the way I don't use TTS just a normal recorded voice. Earlier I could use recorded voices for lane images as well. Hope someone could help me to get rid of this problem.

An Update

Hi,

The day before yesterday, I had to go a bit away from my normal route and to my surprise sound was working fine even when several lane images were showing up (most of them were working closer to London). But as soon as I got into my normal route (away from London) and came across the same lane image I lost all sound from that point onwards. This means that for some of lane images sound is not working and from that point onwards TT loses sound. I therefore thought this could well be a problem with the map and changed the map. But it's still the same. Could anyone help me to figure out where would be the problem? In the map or in the OS?

Answer to the Sound Problem

Hi,

After so much tweaking and troubleshooting, I finally managed to get my problem of losing sound halfway through a journey from a point where particular lane images are shown solved.

Thinking it could well be a problem with the map I've downloaded another version of map but it didn't work. This was my first attempt. Then I changed the voices, deleted old voices from the SD card and replaced them with new ones but the problem was the same. I've disabled lane image instructions from voice options and disabled showing lane images under Advanced options too. Still no luck. Enabled them again and it was the same.

Then I've downloaded another SE version of navcore 9 and installed it on the SD card. It was still the same. Last Monday, when I went somewhere else all of a sudden the sound was working right throughout the journey with several lane images showing up. But as soon as I came across a particular region and when lane images came up on the screen I lost all sounds whatsoever halfway through my journey.

I really was wondering where the problem could as I've changed voices, maps and the OS too and played with various settings. Changing switch files didn't help either with various emulations.

Finally yesterday I reloded the SD card with a patched navcore version 8.010. Then reinstalled the SE Navcore version over it overwriting all the files when it prompted. I then connected the device to TT Home and operated the device and ran a demo on the route where I lose sound half way through.

From my experience in the past, sometimes when you load a new map onto the card, TT restarts when you go to navigate to an Address either under City Centre, Street and house number, Post Code or Crossing or Intersection. This gets rectified when I connect the device to TT Home and try to operate the device and use option that restarts the device. Afterwards the device works perfectly fine. I have to do this only once and the first time it takes some time on TT Home to show me the keyboard as it's kind of stuck somewhere. So I think by using TT Home and operating the device through TT Home to use these options unlock the newly loaded map or set internal connections of files in the folder right as these are related to each other.

So either loading the original navcore or using the TT Home to see a demo of the route must have fixed my problem.

So my advise to update TT One XL - 32 MB devices (if you encounter problems) is to update it with a navcore version 8 and try to reload navcore version 9 on top of it overwriting files as prompted. Also try operating the device using TT Home when you load a new map for the first time, as this will make sure that all options are working in the device without keep restarting it.

From what I understand, there must be something (most likely could be a file) missing in the navcore versions 9 as against navcore versions 8. Mods here could check this.

I hope this would help someone to find a fix if they encounter a problem same as mine.

TT Home "Operate my device" is just an emulation/simulation & should not have any effect on the device itself.

Hi tendriver,

TT Home very well could be a simulation of the device. Still it accesses the map folder in the device when a demo of a route is run. So I think this makes corrections to some files inside this map folder or probably update the relationships between them as these files are linked to each other in some way or the other. I'm not an expert though to say how these are linked. So in my opinion, this will make the maps work properly in the device.

Also as I practically know that sub options under Navigate To -> Address work fine when they are used for the first time in TT Home after loading a new map. This has happened to me several times before and several resets and cleaning flash didn't help. The problem was as soon as I touched the option that is stuck TT restarts. But when used the simulation of TT Home and tried the option it takes a bit longer than usual to give me the keyboard layout but ultimately works. After that I have no problem whatsoever using that option in the device.

All these problems are related to navigation only not to any of the device options in the navcore.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. There never has been & never will be a requirement to run TT Home "Operate my device" to make a unit function properly. If there was, it would have already been discussed at length on Navitotal.
