Wanting to update map on go530/ charging port repair?

Postby dn852k4 » Fri Mar 06, 2020 1:57 pm

I last had a go at this in 2013, so basically a beginner again. Do I repeat all steps as if it's tomtom that's never been updated in this way or can I miss a step out having previously installed a map? Just don't want to brick it!

Also the charging port needs replacing. This isn't something I'd undertake myself. Could anyone recommend a place where I could have the charging port replaced and a rough price please? Thank you

Navcore = 9.510
Map 960.7056

I believe my current navcore can support the latest map? Therefore no need to update - if that's even possible? Didn't tomtom stop support for this model a few years back?

If you've done it before, you won't need to patch the navcore again...other than that, it's the same process.

Your Go 530 uses a SirfStar chipset which means you are probably having problems with the clock remaining at 0:00 and getting a satfix?

If so, TT released an updated navcore to address the issue on 19-12-2018 as detailed below:

TomTom wrote:
Version 9.541
Released on 19 December 2018 This update applies to: XXL Classic, ONE IQ Routes, XL IQ Routes, XL IQR2 / XL Classic, GO 750, GO 750 LIVE, GO 950, GO 950 LIVE, GO 540 LIVE, GO 740 LIVE, GO 940 LIVE, GO 530, GO 630, GO 730, GO 930, GO 720, GO 520, GO 920, EASE, ONE 140, Start
• Maintenance Release.
This update prepares your navigation device for the week number rollover in April 2019 which has an impact on GPS.

There are some UK repairers on google but personally I wouldn't bother unless it just needs a new battery as they are very easy to replace yourself...I'd buy another one on eBay, there are newer models like the Go x40/x50 going for good prices

Thanks for your reply. Yep youre bang on about the clock etc!
What's the best way to go about applying the update you mention?

If I did get a second hand one off ebay are they easy to add new maps and navcores on?

Most important to backup your Go 530 first then just need to extract the new navcore to your device overwriting all other files when asked (afterwards you'll need to re-patch the new navcore)

A more permanent solution can be found on the following link which I would recommend:

If you buy a second hand Go x40/x50 on ebay, it's just the same process...however don't be tempted by a newer model than those otherwise you won't be so lucky...read this to avoid problems later:

Well that ended up being a very frustrating night. Installed the new navcore through tomtom home - all went well.

Got a bit lost with the map/meta and fast activate part.

At first downloaded a map and found the meta data - weren't 100% on what to do but placed it in to a text file on the root of the tomtom along with the extracted map. Used option 1 and 2 on fastactivate then reset the tomtom.

It turns on and mentions about it can't use map (earlier number than the one I downloaded)

I went in to the root and deleted the meta data that related to earlier version. Then it said no map installed (or something to that effect).

Next thing my laptop isn't receiving any charge - absolute nightmare.

Any idea how to fix this, once I've got the laptop sorted?

It sounds like you went a bit 'off piste' by updating the navcore through TT Home rather than the way I said above and you also missed the bit where I said you'll need to re-patch the new navcore...but ok, no problem

When you download a map, all you need to do is to extract the archive to the root of your device...the map will be contained in its own folder and nothing should be touched within it.

All you need to do now is:

1. Run FastActivate on the device and select option 3 to patch the system to accept downloaded maps (wait for successful message before continuing on to step 2)
2. Now select option 10 to update FastActivate > then select option 1 to update the meta codes to the latest available > finally select option 2 to activate the map
3. Turn it on to check all is ok...Job done (afterwards you can delete your old map)

thanks for taking the time to reply. I think its the meta data that is throwing me off also. When I have the meta data for the map, do I only copy the one line for map, then put it in to a text file called "meta"? on the root?

On the root of the tomtom theres already references to meta - can these interfere, do they need deleting? theres the following: Meta, ee_meta.tlv (inside F:ephem), ee_meta, intergarted_meta then there's United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-817.meta , United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-817.meta.dct that are within the map folder, but the device indicates it has map 915 not sure why the reference to 817?

Huh...HTF did that happen?

Just download the navcore I linked you to earlier and follow my instructions

No, you don't need to do anything...when you select option 1 on FA, it will automatically create a new meta.txt file in the root which will contain all of the latest meta codes available for you

Again no, leave all of those files alone...and ignore the 817.meta reference, it's just what TT happen to have named it

I'm not sure why you're talking about 915 maps as they are very old now, you should be downloading the latest 1045 map with all of the posh features that you device can utilize which is: United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland 1045_10001

1. Download that map from here: topic21632.html
2. Extract it to the root
3. Run FA from the root > select option 3 to patch the new navcore (wait for successful message)
4. Now select option 10 to update FastActivate > then select option 1 to update the meta codes to the latest available > finally select option 2 to activate the map
5. Turn it on to check all is ok...Job done (afterwards you can delete your old map)

What is the result?

problem with map you cannot use this map on this device: United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-102336
absolutely no idea how this version come in to the equation as I downloaded United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1045_10045

Again, ignore the TomTom 102336.meta reference as that IS United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1045_10045...but it's not the one I said to download

You're overthinking this and you're not very good at following instructions either...

I've got no idea what navcore you've got installed now & it makes a BIG difference to the result...do you have a backup, if so restore that and start again

a new ttgo.bif will be created when you disconnect it and turn it on

I downloaded the map ending in 45 as the 01 said the server is overloaded and wouldn't let me download.

I disconnected and turned on the tomtom the ttgo.bif is present but when pressing 2 on FA I get:

Voice (s):
Complete map (s):
Incomplete map (s) United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-102336.meta => .dct ERROR
Fuel prices:
Speed cameras:

is that because the map ending 45 is incompatible?
