What tomtom to buy?

Thu Nov 11, 2010 3:26 am

I am total noob in gps matter so please tell me what device is good to buy?
I would like to get something quite cheap ;) but with bigger screen (4")

Sorry for asking such a dumb Q, but my experience with gps ends on pda/mobile versions...
And its too much to choose from so I feel completely lost...

I was thinkin about TT IQ XL... but maybe there is something cheaper, better?
I want to "update" it so which models are compatible? All of them?
[forgive me I didn't really search but suddenly I have to make about 1500 km across Europe and I am not ready for it lol]

Please help me as I need device ready to go [brought & "updated"] for Sunday
xD

Thank YOU guys!
Mike

Buy the cheapest unit that you can find with at least a 4.3" screen, at least 64MB RAM Memory, at least 2GB internal memory & a SD card slot.

Yes i second this advise ;)

so I can only buy:
Go 720
920
530
730

Go 540 LIVE
Go 750 LIVE :(
that's more than for XL IQ ROUTES Europe 42 which I can have for 150 euros...
:(

then theres no point to "upgrade it" if I can have that.... OR I DONT KNOW ABOUT SOMETHING?

ps: thank you for help!!! much appreciated!

1. You can buy any unit that you wish. Our recommendation gives you total flexibility for upgrades and/or 3rd party add ons.
2. ???????????????

ad1 - but whats the point of hcking unit if i have all in for lower price than units good to go [64mb ram, 2 gb, sd slot]?
ad2 - so whats the point of "upgrading"?

I feel that i did not understand something right... do i need all 3 features in one unit to "upgrade"?[64mb ram, 2 gb, sd slot]?

thank you and once again forgive me my ignorance...

The two major items that users upgrade are the navcore & map.
4.3" screen, at least 64MB RAM Memory The newer 9.XXX navcores do not run well on a 3.5" screen & 32MB RAM Memory unit..
at least 2GB internal memory The majority of the maps will not fit on internal memories, that are less than 2 GB.
SD card slot. There are numerous maps that will not fit on 2GB. Plus this gives you extra storage space.

ok but why I cant buy something with bigger internal memory or just SD slot? BC both features in the same unit makes it expesive... can I?

You can buy whatever unit you want to. Anything which is better than what we have said is obviously better. tendriver gave you the minimum upgrade that we mods look for ourselves, but it is up to you what you do with our advice. ;)

Only top of the line units have more than 2GB internal memory. Only bottom of the line small screen 32MB RAM units have a SD card slot & no internal memory.
If you can find it, then by all means buy it. Tomtom model comparison chart

ok I have XL2 IQ routes Europe...
theres no data in comparison about it? :O why?

internal storage 1.85 Gb, no SD slot, don't know how to determinate memory capacity...

Do I have to crack unite to add cameras and voices? or I can do it on original soft?

1. The mods on this site work hard to supply you with all the information we do, now as you can expekt there is a lot of information to provide so sometimes in things like a comparison chart there might be some devices missing, shurely you can respect this!!!

2. XL IQ Routes Edition 2 has 64 mb RAM

3. Yes you need to patch the ttsystem file to use cameras or officiall Premium voices downloaded from here, i reccomend FastActivate Premium for this job ;)

XL2 IQ routes Europe = 4.3 screen, 2GB internal memory, no card slot & as djc said "64MB RAM memory".Everything that a user would normally buy for a TT, but is downloaded from this forum, has to be patched.
