Where to start ? it's no fun getting a Xmas present that doe

Postby ctclee » Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:12 pm

Hello I have been trolling this site for hours now trying to find out how to update maps but unfortunately I still have no clue where to start. Usually I'm quite good at hacking modifying or just simply doing anything with electronics I'm not supposed to. But this time I feel stumped. I have searched for beginner tutorials and all I feel is more confused.

Could someone please help me out. I'm not even sure where to start do I need the exact model of my tomtom or is tomtom xl ok? what programs do I need? God I feel like the biggest noob. I would really like some help in plain English till I get a grip on this. I think i'll only need the training wheels for a few days and I should be up and running.

Happy boxing day :)
and Thanks in advance.

What navcore and map does this unit have installed? Open your XL, then open the ttgo.bif file with notepad. The navcore/application is on line 9, & the map version is a few lines farther down the list.

You are Welcome. There is no need to change the navcore. Go thru the latest 860 maps & pick out what you need. Latest Navcores

Thank you for your help again but i followed the link now i'm more lost.

Once on that page I do not know where to go. I thought I already had the latest navcore. That page is confusing. Do you need to know where I need the maps for ? (canada)

I've started to make a back-up of my TomTom by opening it up with windows exporer and copying the entire contents to a folder on my desktop.

I do not know what the map files look like or what one to choose. Sorry for being such a noob

I would be lost also. My humble apologies. I posted a Navcore link rather than the map link. Try this. All New Maps 860.XXXX

Good choice. You don't need a tut. Just click on the orange auto installer. You might as well look here first. 860 maps with installer and Fast Activate

Confirm that you removed the old map folder before you tried to install the new map folder.

Will this work (orange auto installer) on a Macbook or it doesn't really matter?

By the way my config below:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 720
DeviceVersionHW=GO 720
BootLoaderVersion=55120
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8351
ApplicationVersion=9982
CurrentMap=North_America_2GB
CurrentMapVersion=705.1481
Navcore Version = 8.351
