Which Navcore/Maps for TomTom GO 710 (4V00.710)

Postby teeyes » Mon Aug 17, 2015 9:21 pm

Hi, I registered here yesterday and already did a lot of (very interesting!) reading here, but I can't find the answer.

I have a TomTom GO 710 (4V00.710) with a very old map and I would like to update.

Relevant information:
  • Navcore 8.410 (1218/090213)
    GPS v1.20 / Boot 4.8600
    Map: "Western_and_Central_Europe" v825.2157

Do any of you know which Navcore/maps I should be able to run?
Thanks in advance.

You have to update your bootloader to version 5.5112 or 5.5128 first.
Then there are nice installers in the Navcore section - pick one you like.
When done install any map you like that has a meta code available.

Thank you so much Downunder35m!
Finally, weekend, so now I'll have plenty of time to perform the actions.

  • I performed a full backup of the SD card
  • I downloaded:
  • Bootloader 5.5128
  • Universal Navcore installer (also posted by you):
    http://www.navitotal.com/navcores-9-for-tomtom-devices-f124/universal-navcore-installer-t14168.html

I read your instructions in detail on that page, which make perfect sense to me.
But I'm not sure... do I have to delete/format the SD card first?
And do I have to copy the Bootloader 5.5128 file FIRST to the SD card, and then run the Universal Navcore installer?

Sorry, I really did my best reading and understanding the details.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Format a SD with the format tool by SDCARD.ORG - otherwise a simple delete of all files is sufficient. DO NOT USE WINDOWS FORMAT for the SD.
The bootloader file "system" should be installed first by just copying it to the root of the device or SD.

Thanks a million Downunder35m !!!
I did exactly as you suggested:

- Deleted the contents of the SD card
- Copied the Bootloader 5.5128 to the empty SD card
- Ran/installed the Universal Navcore installer
- Installed the map I wanted
- Ran "FastActivate"

And it worked!!!
I only had to copy the "Voices" folder from my "backup" in order to get spoken instructions...

Wow, I'm really impressed/amazed to find out how "easy" this actually is...
Thanks a lot for your help and this amazing and helpful forum! :) :023:

Well, that is why we have the often ignored tutorials.
People always think it is complicated or that their TT is somehow special, but in fact it really is as simple as you now noticed :)

Hi guys,

I also have a tomtom go 710 with 2006 maps on it (LOL). Where on earth do I find the recommended bootloader? I can't seem to find any download links on navitotal.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much! The search bar didn't seem to bring up that link post for some reason when I tried, which is why I resorted to asking. Thanks again :)

As a little tip:
Try to remember as much about a posting as possible, like username and some terms in it.
Use Google instead of the board search:
"bootloader 5.5128 tendriver site:navitotal"
Of course this only works for postings that Google scanned through the pluging but usually within the first ten hits you get you wanted this way.

first check your bootloader

Checking bootloader (the only reliable method)

Enter a device reset 15 sec.

Then turn on the device and hold the start button until you
get info screen. Which bootloader is there.

Update (if your current bootloader version is lower)
This first to version 5.5022 .
!! BE SHURE THAT THE BATTERY IS FOR MORE THEN 50% CHARCHED !!
[Please Register or Login to download file]
Put the bootloader on a SD card 2GB or less. Read the txt file wich included in the
bootloader
---
1) Take empty SD card from at least 4GB SDHC class 4 or higher.
2) Format the SD card Fat32 once slowly. If it's a new card then you can skip this.
3) Use NavCore 9.510 and unpack it (winrar o.i.d) and place the files and folders on the SD card.
Insert SD Card in the device.
[Please Register or Login to download file]
4) Reset the device (at least 20 sec) and then run it till the notice "No card found"
5) Use your chosen map. Unpack it and
Copy the new map to your SD card in its own folder.
When you open the map you see the individual files.
Not a map in a map.
6) Copy "FastActivate.exe" to your SD Card root.
Run "FastActivate.exe".
Select 2
7) SD card in the device. Reset the device (at least 20 sec)
Done

WE LIKE TO HEAR THE RESULTS GOOD OR BAD

@holyhead Thank you for fast reply with great tutorial.
I have 4 tomtoms, 2 with internal memory and 2 with SD. I'm use Unversal navcore installer and works great with FastActivate and latest map without problems with old bootloader.
The first time I was able to install tomtom two months ago, i didn't pay attention to the bootloader because i didn't know is that important, fortunately
all my tomtoms work great :D
In the meantime I bought SD and install vancore 9.510 in SD, put latest map and activate with F/A all operating normally in old bootloader :D
I did it for the first time, I did not know but working on SD.
I'll tell you what happened when i upgrade bootloader, now i'm waiting to recharge the battery tomtom 710.

I have a question for others tomtoms, all have old bootloaders.
How can i know with tomtom need wich bootloader is that 5.5022 universal for all?
I have:
TomTom XL(no SD slot) i dont know bootloader version coz i give that to my friend,
TomTom XL IQ Routes Edition no SD slot bootloader is 5.5136 (didn't patched yet with old maps but original)
TomTom ONE no SD slot bootloader 5.5019
TomTom ONE (V3) with SD Slot and bootloader 4.81
and TomTom GO 710 with SD slot and bootloader 4.86
