Which should I buy

Which should I buy

Postby catkin » Sun Jul 20, 2014 7:52 am

I am planning to buy my elderly father a new sat nav for his birthday to replace his aging and small T T one. His needs would be simple to use with the ability to upgrade the maps at no additional cost as in lifetime maps or by myself. As I understand it there are very few models now which can be upgraded by the user and although lifetime maps would seem to be a solution I have not been able to find an answer anywhere as to whether lifetime maps include safety cameras which he would insist on.

I would welcome any suggestions/recommendations on what to buy which would fit his needs and also if anyone could confirm that the TomTom XL range are still 'upgradeable' and if the reviews stating the new maps don't fit on the device in incorrect.

Any advice greatly appreciated

This should answer most of your questions. It applies to ALL units put on the market since Sept 2010: topic8690.html

I have a Tomtom one V2 that I keep up to date on here and a Go5000 (one of the new locked down Tomtoms).

I don't like the lack of ability to add my own content, but the go 5000 is a cracking device. (unfortunately literally, I dropped mine and had to send it to Tomtom for repair at a cost of £70)
