Wow.. There is some serious info here but....

Postby riclater1211 » Sat Oct 01, 2011 5:50 am

I can't seem to find the info I am looking for.

So I have a TT 720. My friends cracked it a bit so I have text to voice. However, I would like a map update for USA/Canada (if available), traffic and cams or other cool things that may be available.

I have a 4gb SD card for info and have backed up my TT 720.

I ran that TTcurrentconfig and got this:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 720
DeviceVersionHW=GO 720
BootLoaderVersion=10012
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8351
ApplicationVersion=9982
CurrentMap=North_America_2GB
CurrentMapVersion=710.1584
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...
------------------------------------------------

So my question is now what? With so much information I feel lost and don't want to screw up my device by doing something wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance!

Since a 720 comes out of the box with TTS (text to speech), what did your friend claim that he "cracked a bit"?
The current map edition is 875. Your 710 edition definitely needs updating. Do you really want or need Canada?
US cams are free from TT Home.

Hey tendriver,

I guess my friend was just full of it. Nothing new. Anyways, All I really need is map update. Any other feature will just be a bonus. So how do I go about doing that? I don't really need Canada. I guess once i learn how to do it, I can just always add maps right?

OK so whats the next step?

Thanks in advance!

So I had to try and mess around with this myself. Now I screwed up somewhere and my TT 720 tells me I can't use this map. When I try to restore, I get errors. Ran TTcurrentconfig and now I get this:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 720
DeviceVersionHW=GO 720
BootLoaderVersion=55120
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8351
ApplicationVersion=9982
CurrentMap=
CurrentMapVersion=0.0
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

I used to have this:

TTGO.BIF:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 720
DeviceVersionHW=GO 720
BootLoaderVersion=10012
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8351
ApplicationVersion=9982
CurrentMap=North_America_2GB
CurrentMapVersion=710.1584
TTGO.BAK:
Not Found...
TTGO.ORI:
Not Found...
TTNAVIGATOR.BIF:
Not Found...

Now I have nice paper weight.

Any help would be appreciated. :(

No problem.

Go here: FastActivate ENG 28.08.2011 {1.8.7.2} Read the instructions carefully. Download, unzip & run the Premium version. Click all 4 buttons one at a time, going from left to right.

I gave you the link to FastActive in post 5, because the bold statement above indicates to me that you have updated your map, but haven't patched it yet.

Remove the 710 map folder
Download, unzip & copy into your unit this map: United_States_2GB_875_3613
Go here: FastActivate 03.10.2011 {1.8.7.3} Read the instructions carefully. Download, unzip & run the Premium version. Click all 4 buttons one at a time, going from left to right
Done.

Thank you so much. Worked great. So if I want new maps for when I travel, I just do the same thing with different maps? Can I save other maps on my SD card the same way? Thanks a million!

You are Welcome. Enjoy!!
1. Correct.
2. Yes. 1 slight difference. Put a copy of your 720's ttgo.bif on the card with the map/maps before patching it/them. BTW, you can use any size SD or SDHC card that you wish.

I also just added the safety cams. 1 quick note. It has most of the cams on there but some new ones are going up. When they are done, how can I give back to you guys? Is there a way to upload the cams here?

Thanks TT team!!

Thanx for the offer. TomTom cams are proprietary & can't be edited. Best that you can do is report any new cams to TT via Main Menu, TomTom Services, Safety Alerts, Report safety camera, Fixed camera or Temporary camera.
