MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE8|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE8|Preferences 4 of 5|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_NAME_DISPLAY|
MENUITEM|TASK_SWITCH_2D3D|"2d3d.bmp"|"Switch 2D/3D"|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_STATUS|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_COLOR_SCHEMES|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_BRIGHTNESS|

Using the above as an example the MENUITEM has to be inserted under a page. A page can only have five MENUITEMS in it.
Your MENUITEM should be name: MENUITEM|TASK_SET_SAFETY_PREFERENCES|
You also need a safetypreferences.bmp

ok..ive made a bitmap and inserted it correctly in the folder and my link to it works.

i get the safety preferences icon up in the menu but when i press it it invites me to reset factory settings instead of a speed limit option?? ...no matter what function i substitute for my safety preferences ,something else comes up when i hit the icon?

edit...always the previous entry in the .mnu displays...if i put the safety prefs under poi in the .mnu then poi displays etc

MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE6|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE6|Preferences 2 of 5|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_VOICE|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_VOLUME|
MENUITEM|TASK_SWITCH_SOUND|"sound.bmp"|"Sound on/off"|
MENUITEM|TASK_SET_PROMPT|
MENUITEM|TASK_EMPTY|

Try replacing MENUITEM|TASK_EMPTY| with MENUITEM|TASK_SET_SAFETY_PREFERENCES|

that sounded like a good idea but when i do it i get voice preferences...speak directions at crossroads etc

im beginning to think the xl2 is incapable of performing this task...when i try earlier navcores on it i dont even get a menu at all...it says page 1 of 0 and its blank, and add sdkregistry to an earlier navcore and it freezes...very frustrating

any other suggestions before i give up?

ok, ive figured a way..if i load a navcore that gives me the menu options i need but gives me no sound (9.058 and 9.061 were the only ones i could find and i must have tried at least twenty) set the safety preferences and then overwrite that navcore with 9.151 which is the latest for the xl2 i get my sound back and the setting is preserved in the navcore

it means i can no longer turn it off , because the menu has reverted to the old one...but i can load a previous backup or do a fresh install of 1.51 to delete it..and i get my audible warning...ive just taken my son to the airport a round trip of about 60 miles, and everything is working fine....this may work for other features and settings that the xl2 doesnt have, i havent tried

has anyone heard of this before or have i discovered something?

If this work around meets your need, that is GREAT. Congrats!! But in all honesty, 99.9% of users would not go to that much trouble, just for this 1 minor feature.
