XL350...Just Passin' Thru

Postby pitcritter » Sat Sep 29, 2012 4:52 am

I'm a longtime member here, but all of my time so far has been spent on the iGo boards. Now a friend of mine has asked me to do a little work on his TomTom.

I've determined from the serial number that it's an XL350-2GB TTS (GK.....).

A quick Googling tells me that this model has lifetime updates. I don't want to mess that up for him (although he likely doesn't know he's eligible.)

Here are the current stats:

XXXXX XXXXX
App 9.150.554646
OS 541764
64MB Ram (???)
GPS V1.20
Boot 55274
Map US Canada Mexico P850.2784

Q1. Is this device eligible for free updates?
Q2. Are these updates worldwide?

He's travelling to Italy and would like the Italian maps installed.

I see Italia maps here, but I'm unsure of which ones he needs and the install procedure.

I'm open to any and all advice, because I'm (relatively) GPS smart, but totally TomTom stupid.

Thanks,
PC

Q1. Yes.
Q2. No. Quote below is direct from TomTom.com

Lifetime Traffic & Map Updates*

Enjoy a lifetime of easy driving with two great features from TomTom. Lifetime Map Updates guarantees you receive four new editions of your TomTom map each year to ensure that you are always navigating with the industry’s most up-to-date map. And, Lifetime Traffic Updates automatically sends real-time updates to your TomTom, so you can steer clear of traffic delays and take the fastest route possible to your destination. *Applies to maps of US, Canada & Mexico only. You receive non-transferable traffic data and up to four non-transferable map data updates per year until the product’s useful life expires or TomTom no longer receives map or traffic updates from its suppliers, whichever is shorter. Details and terms at [Please Register or Login to download file] .

Solution:
1. If I am not mistaken, the current navcore for this unit is 9.430. Current map is "USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P v895.4449" TT Home should update both of these using "Update my device".
2. After updating, make a backup of the entire contents of the device, using Windows Explorer.
3. Download & unzip Italia v895.4438. Remove the USA, C & M map folder from the device using Windows Explorer. Copy in the Italy map folder.
4. Patch navcore & map using FastActivate Premium 1.8.9.0
5. Disconnect & reboot. Done.
6. When the Italy trip is over, out with the Italy map folder, in with the USA, C & M map folder. Replace the patched navcore ttsystem file on the unit with the unpatched ttsystem file in the backup. Disconnect & reboot. The unit is now back to the setup that you started with.

Awesome. That's the info I'm looking for.

I'll report progress in a couple of days.

Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure if there's room, but if so, would it be possible to have Italy, Canada & US on the same TT? I don't need Mexico, so installing just the Canada and US maps might free up enough room to have it all.

You can have any combo of maps that you want on a device, as long as there is room.

Italy 4438 + US 4438 = 1816MB
Italy 4438 + USA, C & M = 1821MB

NONE of the 895 edition USA & C maps are usable.

Keep in mind that to use any map not purchased from TT requires that the navcore & ALL maps must be patched.
