XXL freezing on set time

Sat Dec 08, 2012 7:19 pm

TOMTOM XXL IQ ROUTES Edition
Bootloader 55279
App Version = 8550
App Version = 345223

When I boot it gets as far as "Please set correct time" then freezes when I press "done", after about 3 minutes goes into loop to language again.

I do not have a map in at the moment as I was trying to get this problem sorted.

It had a map in but it went into boot and loop as I was driving .

I deleted everything and went onto "HOME" to update, but still the same.

Any ideas as to the problem?

Current official navcore for a XXL is 9.465. 8.550 is just a bit out of date.

You will never solve your issue, by trying to boot without a complete setup installed.

By comlete setup you mean installing map, I was thinking that if I could get it to boot then I would have a TTGO.bif which I thought I needed to get the map to work, but it will not create that, so if I install the map or is there something else I need to install.

I will try again tomorrow, with a complete install.

Thanks

1. Yes.
2. At least you are thinking, albeit not quite correctly. Yes you need a ttgo.bif file to patch a map, but as you found out, the way you were trying to create 1 will not work.
3. Hopefully, you made a backup before you started tinkering. If so, use the ttgo.bif from your backup. In fact, the patcher only needs the device serial # & Unique ID to create a .meta.dct file, so any old ttgo.bif file from this device will work

Well I have put the map back, it is not up to date but that was the map that was in when I was driving. It is the updated map from Tomtom, if I put in a map from this site will it make any difference.

It is now stuck on the start up screen, so I am still doing something wrong, but I now have TTGO.bif.

One thing I noticed a file "bootloaderversion.txt"

BootloaderTarget=s3c24xx
Bootloaderversion=5.5228

is different from TTGO.bif if that matters.

Do you want to get the device working or keep it the way it is?
You say it is stuck but what about all the steps before you added new maps and got stuck?
We can't help if all the time you do what you like ;)
1. is the device starting until "no maps found" when the 9.465 is freshly installed?
2. did you use a map from a working backup or a new map?
3. I assume you use Home to get the contents of the ttgo.bif? The bootloader can't be 1.0012 on your device.
Keep it simple and stick to step by step reporting the results and waiting for feedback.

One more thing to add when I hold the button down, on the build info the bootloader is listed as "S5.5279 clist #575098" and Startup mode =" Power down" is that significant

Sun Dec 09, 2012 2:01 pm

Not significant but it is the correct bootloader.

Sun Dec 09, 2012 2:07 pm

Yes I want it to work
I thought I was doing as I was told

1 no

2 it is a backup on the computer hard drive and not a new map

3 this the TTGO.bif on the device with Home closed, the one I posted in my first post was in the backup on the computer hard drive as there was non on the device.

I am sorry if it seems I am acting impulsively but I am trying to follow your instructions

If your TT does not even start just with a fresh NC you have a problem.
Do a hard reset (hold reset for 30+sec, if no reset button press and hold the power button until the drums come on),
after that use the TT Clear Flash Tool 3 times.
Delete all from the device and let Home do the updates,
follow the instrucions Home is giving you,
you might have to update several times to get the latest NC.
If the device still does not boot up and show "no maps found" you might have a hardware fault.

Thanks I will do that.

I was afraid that it might be terminal as it first happened as I was driving and nothing to do with updates or new maps,

I will do as you suggest to night, and let you know the result.

Many thanks

I have followed your instructions and I now have
[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom XXL IQ Routes Edition
DeviceVersionHW=ONE XXL IQ Routes
DeviceSerialNumber=****
DeviceUniqueID=*****
RamDiskVersion=20120927
BootLoaderVersion=55279
LinuxVersion=842337
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9465
ApplicationVersion=1074274.2
UserLanguage=English UK
UserName=
LastConnectionTime=Never
GPSFirmwareVersion=2.16.201 77382

It begins the setup process Language: Miles:Time Format: Please Set Correct Time then when I press done it freezes, so it never gets as far as to say" No Maps Found"

So is that the end of the road for this one?

Sun Dec 09, 2012 10:01 pm

I'm afraid so, sorry.
But depending on the age of the device it might be worth telling the TT support the symptoms and to ask if this hardware problem is covered by their extended warranty.
There have been cases where TT even outside the warranty period repaired/replaced faulty devices due to know problems within a series of devices.
All you would have to pay in such a case is the postage.
I would give it try and if they want to charge too much you can still think of getting 720 or 730 off Ebay.
