Built in Garmin on new Honda CRV

Postby cnbs38 » Fri Jan 22, 2016 12:39 pm

I have just bought a new Honda CRV with built in Garmin Sat Nav.

According to Honda it is not possible to add speed cameras to this system.

This seems crazy...

Re: Garmin City Navigator Europe NTU 2022.10 FID 8926

Postby woodyz82 » Sun Oct 24, 2021 10:31 pm

Here is one then if anyone wants to take a stab at this! I have a Honda Civic Type R 2015 model, the car has the Honda Connect Head Unit which runs Android and in turn Garmin for my sat nav. I have always updated it via the Garmin Express program, put a usb pen in the car to grab what I assume is some kind of digital licence, plug it into my computer and download the map file to the usb, then back to the car with the usb to update the unit.

My map updates have now expired, so I have come for a hunt here, I am no stranger to tomtom units, been playing with those for years, patching navcore, adding voices, speedcams, all the rest of it, but I never had a play with Garmin systems.

Garmin Express suggests the latest map is called "City Navigator Europe NTU 2022, Honda BEANs 1.0"

I am only really looking for UK & ROI maps, can anyone share some knowledge on if this is possible and how would I go about it, I am tech savy, as mentioned done tomtoms, iphone jailbreaking, PlayStation Classic hacks for years - so happy to have a go assuming the risk is reversable! I have the last offical Garmin Express map downloaded and saved!

I have a 2016 Honda HR-V with Garmin Connect,
It's possible to add speedcams to the garmin navi system,
Download the maps to an usb-stick with the program garmin express,
Now open the USB-stick with filemanager on your windows computer,
you see a map named "poi" in there you have to put your speedcam files,

Then take the USB-stick to the car and update your maps,
Now you have your new maps, now you need to reset-factory-settings in garmin to activate sound from the speedcams,

When all is finished your speedcams will work perfect, you see the icon's on your screen and it beebs a sound or if you have made spoken messages it's also talking how fast is allowed.

That's all.

Looks like a part of a Honda garmindevice.xml.

There is no Firmware to download ,so no Patch to find.
There are other members that own these devices, but we need more info to work out how to help.

Car is Honda Civic 2016 model.
The car maps can be updated via a USB drive/stick.
Currently it has at least the UK maps installed, and that's what I'd like to update.

Do I just try to replicate that folder structure in your screenshot?

You can't, Honda added a protection starting with App v3.x that unlocked maps can't be used anymore.
The only way I know is and what I did on my Honda is, root the head unit and downgrade to v2.0.5.
This involves downgrade to v2.0.5 with the installation of "com.honda.displayaudio.navi.apk" v2.0.5 and replace "libNaviApk.so" with the matching version
This can be done with a File Explorer which has built-in root access.

Cheers

I can provide it, but need to know whether your head unit is rooted and which version number is on your Garmin unit.
Also very important can you enter developer mode on your head unit.
Only then you can root the head unit and replace the "libNaviApk.so" to the matching version of v2.0.5.

Cheers

Downgrade Garmin Honda Navigator to v2.0.5

This version of Garmin Navigator v2.0.5 can handle unlocked maps.

Word of warning;
I don't take any responsibility if your head unit gets bricked if you root it.
Only because it worked on my Honda CR-V 2018, doesn't mean it works on yours!!!!

Requirements:
Your headunit must be rooted!!!.
No root = no downgrade.
There are guides available how to root the headunit and how to enable Developer Options.

Steps as below;
1. Root your headunit.
2. Install a file explorer with root access (ES File Browser or FX File Explorer) I use the latter one.
3. Download the package below which include "GarminNavigator.apk", com.honda.displayaudio.navi.apk" and "libnaviapk.so" and copy to a USB stick (FAT32).
4. Select "Settings" -> "System" -> "Details" -> "Application" -> "All"-> "GarminNavigator"-> click "Force Stop" -> click "OK"
5. Backup the the 3 original files from your headunit!!!
- Original "GarminNavigator.apk": root "/mnt/sdcard2 or "/storage/sdcard1" (i.e. external storage)
- Original "libnaviapk.so": root "/data/data/com.honda.displayaudio.navi/lib"
- Original "com.honda.displayaudio.navi.apk": root "/vendor/app/"
- Optional: Backup your Garmin Folder.
6. Copy "GarminNavigator.apk" from the USB stick to "/mnt/sdcard2 or "/storage/sdcard1" (i.e. external storage)
7. Copy "libnaviapk.so" from the USB stick to "/data/data/com.honda.displayaudio.navi/lib"
8. Copy "com.honda.displayaudio.navi.apk" to "/vendor/app/"
9. Long press on your volume button to restart the headunit.
10. After reboot open the Navigation app and check whether the installation is complete.
If a file is missing, open your file explorer and install "GarminNavigator.apk" from your USB drive.
11. If you can't open the Navigation go to "Settings" -> "System" -> "Details" -> "Application" -> "All" -> "GarminNavigator" -> click "Clear Data"
12. If successful, you can use now unlocked maps on the Garmin Navigator.
If not, you either didn't follow the steps above or Garmin added additional protection.
In this case, install the original "Garmin Navigator.apk" from your backup and update to the original version.

Download: [Please Register or Login to download file]

And no, you cannot just install the "GarminNavigator.apk" from the downloaded file above, it won't overwrite the newer files installed in your Garmin Navigator.

Cheers
