I looked at the website and it lists the device/vehicle so how do you know what map to choose ?

You must select the actual head unit fitted to your vehicle.
then it will show you what maps are available for your use by country or region.

thats doesnt help when you arent using a factory fitted head unit.

I don't use a factory fitted head unit either.
I use a Blaupunkt NewYork 830 head unit not fitted as standard in any Australian car.
Some European ones maybe.
There are lots of brands on the Navieextras website not standard in vehicles.
What brand is your head unit, maybe we can fine an equivalent on their site.

once again tried to find update but can only find proof of release here

I can confirm its available, unfortunately we will have to wait for someone generous to provide a copy.
