North America (United States, Canada & Mexico) HERE (Navteq) 2015.Q2

There is an extended POI file for Canada for 2015Q2. But even without the extended POI file, you should still see many restaurants, businesses, etc... Do you see any POI categories at all when searching via category?

If I search and start typing any letter, the search is greyed out. So it appears not poi's are available at all. I was able to search and address though, and can see the map and street names while driving.

But what if you search via category (where you can select and drill down into the different categories) - does it show any categories? I wonder if you have a corrupt POI file.... Maybe try installing a USA POI file to see if it works and go from there.

It's hard to tell in this photo (click link below), but Gas Stations, Parking, etc all greyed out. Second image you will see even after typing "T", results zero. I have all the poi files installed including usa.

Yeah, something is not right. Did you go into the "More..." menu, select Help -> About -> Content and then see if it see's the POIs and that the POIs are listed as active? I don't think it's seeing your POI files for some reason. See what it says in the Content screen ("click" on the POIs in the Content list to see what POI files it sees).

Yes, i did and it appears to be looking at the correct file. Please excuse the image quality, but you can read it: [Please Register or Login to download file]

My file size of the poi is 15,564 KB is that correct? Seems small.

Hmm - very strange... I did check old HERE maps and the Canada POI file is about the same size. However, when I check the TomTom Canada POI file, it's MUCH bigger (67MB instead of 15MB). Have you ever used older HERE maps before? Maybe they just aren't very good for Canada from a POI perspective?

If you want, I'll send you a link to a 2014.03 TomTom POI file to try (you can use TomTom POI files with HERE maps).

EDIT: Actually, I'm already sharing them:

I added the old poi files and it works. Must be corrupt or incomplete. I'll also try your tomtom files tomorrow. Which do you prefer?

Further to the above, do i need to rename your Tom Tom poi file to get it to work?

No - iGo just cares that is has the .poi extension - name is meaningless as long as it has .poi at the end.

I actually prefer HERE poi's for my area - I found that the TomTom .poi file had a lot of duplicates in it.... Your area may be different though...

I'll give it a try, thanks. Worst case, I'll go back to the old version as it did work although not up-to-date.

Please do report back with your findings - I'm kind of curious if you like the TomTom or HERE POIs better. I'll also do some testing with the 2015Q2 Canada POI file to see if it works for me - maybe you just have a corrupt download or something..

Just tried it, and the Tom Tom file works. Thanks again!

On another subject, one thing that has always been an issue for me, and still is (just tested it). When I go into the avoidances (ie avoid a particular road or highway), or when i am stuck in traffic and the GPS recommends another route, I cannot select either of these or it just reboots the software. Anyone have this issue as well?

No issues for me in that respect. I *was* having a similar issue (unit would reboot) when I selected an item from the Itinerary list - I fixed that problem with a different data.zip.

Also, I just tested the 2015Q2 Canada POI files and it worked fine for me. I just went into a Custom search, selected Canada, then Calgary and saw plenty of POIs and all categories worked.

My device is 800x480 - if yours is as well, I can sent you my data.zip as well as the Canada POI files (normal and extended). Let me know - I'll .zip them up (data.zip and POI files) and PM you a link to the .zip file...

EDIT: PM sent.
