TTActivator (download and activate) is the easiest way.

Thanks, got it. I hope it fits on my old TT XL

Hello @jake224,

If your TT XL has a 512Mb internal memory, too bad : there's no solution.

If it has a 2Gb internal memory, great : you can download the map directly to device, then activate.

If it has a 1Gb internal memory, you could use "Optimize_Nav3" to downsize the file :
1) download the map in the Optimize_Nav3 folder, 2) run "Optimise_Nav3" and answer Y everytime, 3) copy the downsized file to your device.

Because only leechers want and use torrents & never bother to seed for others once they've selfishly taken their download! :013:

PS compared with the cost of BUYING a new map etc, it's still way cheaper to either pay for a short-term subscription to a download site or just accept that it will take time to download FOR FREE! That's your call

Thanks jcoltrane, I have 1GB internal. What I did was delete all the APR* files. Everything seems to be working.
I am not sure what the APR files are used for, but they don't seem to be needed.
Thanks again

Hello @jake224,

You did well.

"Optimize_nav3" reduces the size of a nav3 map in order to use it with a nav2 device.
The deleted files are : all "arp... .dat" + cphonmlh.dat + cspeech... .dat. You save around 30% space when downsizing.
These files are only needed in a nav3 device.

OK, tested the GPS today and working well. All but the reading of street names, I guess that is what the ARP files are for.

May be... or you can try this :
Turn your device on, In the main menu "change preferences" / preferences 4 of 8 "street name preferences", you could check ou uncheck many options.

Thanks. I tried the settings, still the same. I think it has something to do with the ARP files. I still can't figure out what they are for. It might be I need a computer voice like Susan. TT Home says my device is too old to download anything. I'm good with the way it is, but I'll keep trying.

Yes, you need a computer voice for reading street names

Standard voices are available here(link) where data08.chk and data08.vif ("Bonnie US English" voice) can be copied into the "voices" folder of your XL.

Computer voices may be available there (link) and Susan could be copied in Loquendo folder of your XL.
