2. Impossible. A map can't brick a unit.

I need the most current map of Portugal, which would be best for me? Europe has many of ... but only really need to Portugal,

Can you someone please tell me for example why are 2 parts on DE_AT_CH_and_Eastern_Europe_865_3259, and some files are the same???
do I need to change those files from one part to another or make 2 same copies? bit puzzled.

There are three parts to this map. You need all three. They are different files. Download all and extract and they will make your map. One map is auto in stall and patching and one is only map.

I have changed from relink to linksave because of this. If you will PM with what map you want I will send links. If you use automatic installer it uses linksave and you will not have that problem.

As it runs with the north_america_2gb map I would expect it to work with Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB_865_3245.

US devices most prolly wont work in europe. As far as i know (even with self experience) devices brought from USA / Canada, simply don't work in europe. The case i had myself was a megallan (whatever the name) and it even didn't accept the map from europe...
