2. The left column lists the maps. The next 2 columns lists the features in each map. The remaining columns lists the navcores. Match your navcore to a map that gives you a green Y.

What area do you need to cover?

Western and Central Europe.
I use as you said 3810: thank's tendriver
Now I use TTH to determine with sub version I need, trying to add a map: every proposed map indicated the sub version: blablabla.3810 =)

Much easier for dummies like me ;)

I have Binatone device and successfully installed 875 version which works fine, but 880 i follow the same steps but it says no maps found (in English). I have copy all files from old memory card where 875 working fine and then put 880 version maps and run Fastactivte. Got successfull message but device says no maps found. Any idea which steps i would have not done properly.

I have had problems myself when I copied new map over an old one, having more of one of this kind of file in map directory: (sample) Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB-xxx.meta
Keep only the new *-xxx.meta file in your map directory: remove or rename oldest.
THEN run FastActivate.
If not, FastActivate patch the first *-xxx.meta it found, then exit.

Let us know please if that rock with this tip ;)

NEVER EVER copy a new map over an old one. ALWAYS ALWAYS REMOVE THE ENTIRE OLD MAP FOLDER AND COPY IN THE NEW MAP FOLDER.

1. Make no mistake, have no illusions.
I'm a newbie regarding TomTom devices.

2. I just bought a (secondhand) TomTom Go 750 Live and after one long dr ive I am convinced of the added value of it.
However I am a little bit confused with the several abbreviations which are used.
Also I have found that it is quite difficult to compare several models and versions of the TomTom devices.

I updated the maps from my mothers TomTom One and struggled with finding the correct card. This was especially difficult because of the limited capacity the Europe map was split up into several parts.

3. Anyway, I wanted to aid fellow readers with the following information:
ALG = Advanced Lane Guidance
ASR = Advanced Speech Recognition (edited by me)
HNR = House Numbering
Cspeech = SpeechToText
and, extra information,
LoquendoTTS = TomTom's computervoices (TextToSpeech); used for pronouncing written driving instructions which gives more detailed information than the standard instructions.

In my opinion it would be an improvement if a legend would be added to the Navitotal map overview Images explaining the abbreviations.

A couple more questions
My Tomtom device gives me: App 9.061.576030.1, besturingssysteem 567329 (Dutch)
I take it this is Navcore 9.06X? I don't see this in the map overview. How come?
4. I have downloaded Europe_2GB_880_3812. The downloaded links refer to Europe_2GB_880_3612.
Is this a typo?
5. What is the difference with Europe_880.3812 map?
6. Oh yes, I've been having a lot of "no download slot availeble" (typo copied) the last few days. At this
moment I am downloading the last part. So finally I'm gonna finish it.
This is an incidental situation with filefactory?

To conclude: the last year my mother has profited greatly with Navitotal map update services!
Thanks soo much!

1. Compared to some people here on Navitotal there are many of us in the same situation as yourself, but as time goes by we do improve, some more slowly than others.

2. That should read 'ASR = Advanced Speech Recognition NOT 'SPEED'

3. As you probably know their are 2 types of legends and you are probably looking at the one that does not show what the abbreviations stand for.

5. The difference between which maps are you referring to?

4. Probably, but once your dl is complete you can check that out before installing.

6. You were probably trying to DL at the wrong time of day, also the speed depends on where you are DL from.
(I try and avoid FileFactory whenever possible, because I find it so slooow compared to other sites such as FileServe)

1. You obviously missed seeing this chart: Tomtom model comparison chart The newer models can't be patched, so we don't fool with them.
2. I don't understand what your point is.
3. You obviously missed this one also: Definitions for dummies Thank you for your opinion.
4. There are too many NCs to list them all in the table. Your navcore is listed in a coded form. Simply replaces the Xs with your navcore digits. Example 9.0XX = 9.061 = OK.
5. 3812 is correct.
6. Difference compaired to what?
7. It is a 'Traffic" issue.

Hi oldfogy,

@4 Yeah, most probably a typo. The .exe starts up and informs me that 880.3612 will be installed but the .rar files tells me when opened that it contains 880.3812.

@5 The difference between Europe_2GB_880_3812 and the Europe_880.3812 map?

@6 I have been downloading friday, sunday and today. Got a LOT of 'no availeble download slots' during the entire day. That's why I'm asking. I couldn't care less for an occasional nag from a download site like filefactory.

Yes, thanks. I saw it.

Remaining issue: The difference between Europe_2GB_880_3812 and the Europe_880.3812 map?

Thanks for the Definitions for Dummies and the Model Comparison. Very helpful. I'm struggling to grasp it...

'Part of the' Definitions for Dummies post

HNR.............................House Numbering. It's for Russia and Greece that do not use a conventional numbering system in some areas.
Navcore Truck...............There is a special navcore & Western and Central Europe map for large vehicles.

Just a couple of questions if you please. (to put my mind at ease)

1. With the HNR maps are these maps only real benefit for Russia and Greece (as above) if it is, is there any other benefit of having that particular map installed .3812 against the .3810?
The main reason I ask is that I have problems sometimes with the 9.205 Navcore which is needed for the .3812 maps, whereas with Navcore 8.410.1218 for .3810 does not give me any problems.

2. With the Europe Truck map, is there any advantage for a normal car motorist to have that map against having the Europe Map?
(Mainly it will be used to drive from the UK to Spain and Turkey)

As maps have grown in size, TT has taken steps to be sure that they will continue to fit on devices. 1 step was the 2GB maps. They were designed to fit on 2GB memories, & the "full" version needed 4GB of memory. However, the 2 maps in question here, Europe_2GB_880_3812 and Europe_880.3812, are the same size, 2363MB. There isn't any significant difference at all.
Maps are continuing to grow. TTs solution now are "zone" maps.

1. No. Do you have any problems with 9.205 & 3810?
2. No. Not at all.

1. Actually I have not yet tried the 9.205 with a 3810 map, only with the 3812 map, (I will try later, just out of curiosity and let you know if there was any problems) other than that, then no not really, I did have a problem at one stage with the 9.205 navcore and 3812, but when I removed all of the old 715.1732 street maps (and a few others) and only left one map on the 4GB SD card the problem of freezing and restarting stopped happening. (Obviously a bit of a file conflict somewhere)

The only minor problem at the moment is with the shortcut icon on the TT desktop is that the icon in the menu to select Fuel, Text, Pictures Music etc, has disappeared, but who knows possibly a re-install might solve that problem.

2. Thanks.

They are "clones" of each other (identical) and just prefixed differently for different devices so you can use either of them.
The only difference is the pna & meta files (which you really don't want to get into) so whichever you want.
