Best US Map?

Postby Hometheatremaven » Sun Jan 02, 2011 8:56 pm

My TomTom XL340S has 2GB internal and 64MB RAM. I do not have problems loading most maps, even ones exceeding 1660mb. I'm looking for the most comprehensive and up-to-date US map.

I was using USA_and_Mexico_2GB_860.3101 with no problem, but wanted to go up to a full size map (ie. not the 2GB version).

So I choose USA Canada & Mexico P 860.3121. I choose it because my TomTom does not have a mic for voice control (CSpeech) and 3121 has HNR (which sounded good I guess). The problem with this map is when I use TomTom Home to update this map, it says: "Your map has not been updated for more than 20 weeks. Unfortunately MapShare map corrections are temporarily not available". I don't want a map that can't be updated with MapShare.

I never got that message with USA_and_Mexico_2GB_860.3101. It updated fine.

So, which is the best (most comprehensive) US map that is being updated with MapShare?

Thanks.

Just to let you know that the problems I had with winrar and the map unraring errors were caused by a defective RAM chip in my computer.
Thanks for your help.

Thanx for the update on your unzip problem.

Any 3101 (non 2GB) map is a full version. HNR is handy in Russia & Greece, but not the US.

I had the same problem MONTHS ago, and after checking the internet and finding no working fix, I gave up and continued using my GO730....after a few weeks of use, I decided to try the Mapshare update again, and this time it worked, and is still working fine....so by just using the unit, something updated within the files and allowed the Mapshare to work on it's own, but sorry, not exactly sure what or why, but after research, I found that a mapserver.dat file had been created since my original backup, and I know it is one of the files responsible for Mapshare updates. Perhaps someone can provide a virgin copy (unless the file is map specific) of this file to apply to our maps when required to jumpstart Mapshare updates??

This is not a hardware or software issue, therefore there is no fix. "Your map has not been updated for more than 20 weeks. Unfortunately MapShare map corrections are temporarily not available". The message means exactly what it says. When new maps are released, TT has to build a data base from corrections, that are sent from users, before they can offer mapshare corrections. It was almost 3 weeks before mapshare updates were available for the 860 map that I use. Your post title "be patient :)" is appropriate.

Hi all.
I bought a TomTom XXL just yesterday. Corrent map-version is 840.2562 and OS-version is 9.061. Now I wish to update it to a newer version of Western & Central Europ. My GPS is limitted to 2 GB and no support of SD-card. I already downloaded 860.3101that's more than 2 GB. So had some questions.
1 - Do I need to replace all the new version with the old one or just need to add update files to the current version?
2 - Is 860.3101 the correct one or the best to be replaced with 840.2562?
3 - How should I install a new version or add update?
Your guidance is appreciated.

There are numerous map that will no longer fit on a 2GB memory. TT solution is to create ZONE maps.

Thanks dude!
So refer to my location (Norway) it seems Scandinavia-Map would be the best for me. Then, should I delete what I have already in my device or "Auto installer 9.205" will do it automatically? May I ask for more help please?

Keep the 9.061 navcore for now. Download & install this map: Scandinavia 860.3101 [246.3MB] Patch the navcore & map with the keygen of your choice.

Thanks again. I made a back up of my GPS and downloaded Scandinavia map.
Now,
1 - What I should do with the present map (Western & Central Europe)? Should I delete it first, then begin to install the new map?
2 - Can I use "Auto installer 9.205"?
Sorry if I look dumb!

Remove the current map folder & copy in the new map folder. Run FastActivate ENG 26.12.2010 {1.8.02} to patch this map.
Yes, you can use "Auto installer 9.205".

Dear "Tendriver", let me appreciate you again.
I did what you have said and could install new maps just perfectly. The only problem I had was with the "FastActivate". (Write it down here as an experience, so might be helpful for other users)
First I wished to try with the light version and it didn't work. After patch got an error that Scandinavia_860_3101 can not be start, or such things. Then used "FastActivate ENG 26.12.2010 1.8.02-Premium" and the result was just fantastic. No difficulty.
Thanks Million and good luck.
Best regards, Dennis.

first, good to hear that...

You run light version without .BIF file and then you try device and then run premium when .BIF file is created (after first start) ?
I ask that because both activators works same way...???
