brand new and in need of help

Postby kavister » Fri Feb 24, 2012 1:31 am

Hi guys,
Im new to this site... im trying to impress my bosses and so told them I could update the maps on there TT ones one is a 3rd edition from 2005 and the other from 2009 or 2010. Now ive found and downloaded a new north america map with FastActivate.exe and autoactivate files. Now this is where I start to stall. The devices do not have SD cards, and the posts ive read required them when people explain how to load it....

Please could some one tell me exactly how to make this work... i really dont wanna look like an idiot

Much appreciated,

To avoid looking like an idiot it is best to impress the people with something you know and can handle very well ;)
The procedures are all the same no matter if you use a SD or the internal memory and our tutorials state the same in almost any case.
A SD is recommended (if possible) so that the original Navcore on the internal memory stays untouched (as a backup or for warranty purposes).
Simply follow the instructions in the map thread and for FastActivate and all will be fine.
Update meta, Patch Navcore, Activate maps,voices,speedcams...
With a bit of patience you would have found this info in about 15-20 minutes by reading through the stickies in this section ;)
Good luck, and no, you won't brick them :)
I hope you made a proper backup before you started using Windows Explorer? If not I have to assume you did not check any of our tutorials....
And please check if there is a meta code available before installing a map and complaining you can't get it to work ;)

In an effort to keep you from looking like an idiot, we need to collect a bit of info about these two units. Run TomTom Current Configuration {29.09.2011} on each unit & post the results here.
You've downloaded a North American map, but you don't say which one. If it is a 885 edition of North America or any of the several United States combos & variations, I must tell you that none of them have a meta posted & are unusable at this time. All of these map are available in the 880 edition.

Sorry, for Quality Control purposes, Navitotal does not support maps downloaded from elsewhere.

It is most likely that you can not activate these old maps as ther meta codes might no longer be in the meta.txt.
Use 880 or 885 maps and check for the meta codes before installing them.

Yes, if you use a map that already has the meta code posted with the download.
If there is no meta code, then you can not use the map at this time.

You have a decent lack of general knowledge when it comes to what you are doing.
Please check the tutorials and sticky threads in this section ;)
