Carminat Tomtom - No map found

Carminat Tomtom - No map found

Postby KejPi » Sun May 13, 2012 7:18 pm

Hello,

I have followed this guide many times already - http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?2620-10-Simple-Steps-To-Upgrade-Carminat-for-Newbies - with two maps Europe 880.3811 and 885.4009 that should be compatible with 8.842 but always the result is the same -> Tomtom in my car reports that there is no map. I am really confused since I am pretty sure I have followed the guide exactly as it is. Is the procedure still valid?

Thanks!

That either means your maps are not activated - check for a .dct file in the map folder.
Or the Navcore is not patched as explained in the tutorial.

DCT file is in map folder and during Navcore patching (PNDnavigator) there was no error message - just something like "Patching..." and then "Press any key...", no error message. I hope it is OK.

EDIT: I have other maybe important information - since I am the second owner of the car I am not sure if 60 days "Latest Map guarranty" has been used or not. Can it be a problem?

The map guarantee has nothing to do with it.
Did you use the latest version of FastActivate?
I suggest to try again with a clean install as I suspect either the dct files are not correct or the Navcore was not patched properly.

Thanks for your reply. I have already tried many times using Fast Activate downloaded 3 days ago. OK, I will try again and this time with brand new SD card. I do not know where else could be the problem.

Yes, it is Premium.

EDIT: I forgot one deviation from guide I linked in first post. In step 8 I am entering to ttgo.bif:
Code: Select all
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8842

There is 8841 written in original guide but the version I have in car as well as what I have downloaded in step 3 is 8842. Is it correct?

The version number does not affect the patching, and for the map only the device ID is needed.

Is there any constrain about directory name where the map is put? A I have tried:
Code: Select all
SD Root
 |
 |- Europe
 |  |- map files
 |
 |- ttgo.bif
 |- ttsystem
 |- PNDnavigator
 |

and
Code: Select all
SD Root
 |
 |- Europe_885_4009
 |  |- map files
 |
 |- ttgo.bif
 |- ttsystem
 |- PNDnavigator
 |

If the map files are inside the map folder and not a folder "map files" it is correct.
But the tutorial said nothing about a PNDNavigator - where did this file come from?
If it is present the ttsystem will not be patched but the PNDnavigator!
I recommend starting fresh and to follow the tutorial.
A fresh SD means all files deleted, except the ttgo.bif for FastActivate later on.

Yes, maps files are inside map folder, not a folder inside folder.
Step 7: Use FastActivate Premium Edition and patch the PNDnavigator file with it.

PNDnavigator and ~tsystem appear in SD root in step 5: Extract these files with winrar (right click > extract here) in the sdcard root. Does it mean that PNDnavigator should be deleted?

I did it always from scratch - usually following this procedure: format -> insert in car to initialize -> continue with step 4

Ok, you're right if the files is inside the archive.
Doing a format is not recomended for a SD.
At this stage I can only assume that the NC is not patched correctly, if you have the DCT file in your map folder and you used the correct device ID inside the ttgo.bif the map is fine and can stay on the SD.
You might want to try a different patcher to confirm if FastActivate is the problem or something else.

OK, I can try "How to build a SD from scratch?" procedure from here. But it is not clear to me how to proceed in step 9 - if my map is in folder "Europe_885_4009". But if you say that maps should be fine, the it is probably not required.
BTW: I have already tried an procedure with YDG patcher and keygen that needs meta.txt, map's pna and map's meta file with the same result. The navigation in car does not see any map.

BTW: if I insert SD in car navigation and switch it on, there is "busy clock" on the display first, then shortly a progress bar and then navigation normally starts. Nothing that looks like installation procedure, no warning about not switching off during procedure, etc. And if it starts it reports no map, then if I switch it off and replace the SD card by original Renault card, switch it on again, the navigation startup procedure looks the same, but the original map is found. Is this startup behaviour correct?

I guess it is as the carminat works a bit different to normal TT models.
Just to confirm:
You insert the empty SD to the TT and leave it until the "message no maps found" to initialise?
You don't get any errors for patching or map activation and the DCT files are created?
You used the correct deviceID for the ttgo.bif?
Do you get an error on the screen with the new SD if so what is the message shown on the screen?
Currently uploading a patched version that I created, but I can not test it, if you're interested you can try it : [Please Register or Login to download file]

Unpack to an empty SD, add your map folder, the correct ttgo.bif, FastActivate and only activate the map - the NC is already patched.
Don't forget to update the meta.txt first in FA ;)

Thank you, I will definitely try when I have my car back (Thursday).
Yes, I wait until message "Card is ready to be used in this unit" appears.
No errors when patching - everything looks OK, map is detected, etc.
Yes, double checked already - DeviceID is correct
No error messages - only message, that map is not found.
