Dates of maps?

Dates of maps?

Postby willb » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:27 pm

I see various series, e.g., 880.xxxx, 885.xxxx, 890.xxxx. Firstly, I'm assuming the higher major numbers are more recent. In other words all the 890s are more recent than all the 885s which are more recent than all the 880s. And, within a major, a higher minor number is more recent. e.g. 890.4278 is more recent than 890.4268. Correct? If not, is the numbering scheme explained in some sticky / could some kind soul enlighten this newbie? Secondly, is there a resource which tells when a version of the map was released?

Thanks for any help!

1. Correct. The first 3 digits is the EDITION number.
2. Incorrect. All maps of the same edition are released at the same time. The last 4 digits are the different versions of that edition.
3. New editions are released every 3 months. 890 was released on May 23.
