Why not use torrents?

Torrents are the easy way - U cant get everything the easy way. A new map is worth of the struggle in my opinion :yahoo:

Well, the team is doing their utmost best to provide working links for all maps and other material. Even if it means changing hosts some times.
Torrents aren't the easy way, seeders are are the key, but oh so few in numbers.

@ gerry5039: No one forces you to pay to download any quicker. The maps won't stay alive any longer. But when you can't wait 10 minutes longer ... choice is yours.

I could try to offer the next round of TT maps as a torrent, but that would mean for me that I need some more seeders first.
Imho torrents in out case are good enough for some smaller files if the uploader keeps them online long enough to get enough seeds.
For me and the huge volumes involved in maps I would give the torrent to the other seeders first and when they are ready the torrent will be posted.
You see the problem? Even with only 5 seeders to begin with it would mean 5 times the upload traffic for me unless you get it all really good organised.
A user wants a fast and effective download, but for torrents that can only work with a lot of seeders to share the files.
You want a new map as soon as it comes out? Well, everyones else wants that too.
Imagine you have a few people willing to share the map but hundreds of people trying to download it - the speeds goes down to dial up.
Since I got a Primo pack on my PC and Primo links die too fast these days we could give it try using Primo.
Smaller size than a map and maybe still enough people here to share the bandwidth with others?
But again : I won't kill my personal bandwidth to keep the torrent alive!
If there are enough people here for a test than please make a simple posting how much MB or GB you are willing to share, you torrent seeding speed and the hours per day your PC is online for sharing.
Something like this :

I want to help Navitotal to keep all files online and offer :
500mb
40kb/s
4-6 hours weekdays, weekends always online

At the risk of getting flamed for repeating myself, [Please Register or Login to download file] is worth looking into as a good compromise. Robust hassle free d/l's and generous cost/storage rates. I second the thumbs down on torrents: lack of seeders in the case of maps. I have been using JDownloader since it was mentioned in this thread: complaints I have are that it does require user intervention at the free levels to input security image's and it throttles bandwidth mildly.

Most hosts are available for automatic re-captcha using the plugins for JD.
In case of Megaupload or RS all runs automatic, but there are still many hosts left to implement for the automatic captch recognition.

And there is still the JD alternative Load! , all free and open source.

in my humble opinion torrents only work if you are a member of a private invitation only site. Because people are invited they have to agree to fairly strict rules on ratio's etc and because everyone on there understands how it works, it works geat with really good download speeds. (yes i am a member of a few)
As i said before unless you want to go the private route the way it is being organised here is currently the way to go. Things do change and i can see the guys here are savvy enough to know what to follow and what not to follow and if alternatives come out that work then they will try them.

As promised earlier, but more specific:

Storage +/- 60GB direct avaiable, will be much more after HDD upgrade later this year.
Uploadbandwidth 60-80 KB/s at night and on my workdays, 25KB/s at other times.
Available 24/24/7, except when changing hardware etc.
No "datalimits".

Ok, for all of you that offered your help I created a few torrents to test.
It is the whole Primo pack that I posted here.

You can download the attachment and test if the tracker works, if so keep seeding and I will post the torrents in the right threads once there are 3-5 seeders available.

I hope this way we can make sure that our Primo packs are available for more users and that they stay online longer.

how about [Please Register or Login to download file] and leave our laptops to seed all night? ivan those with poor 50kb/s uploads at a number of 10 would make a difference, plus 10 leechers you get about 1 mb/s download:mail1:

I don't want to publish the files on a warez site, this causes only idiots to add the same file names, but with crap in it.
Once the trackers exchange their content, no one can really know what files are from us.
I use a public tracker and just noticed someone is already leeching, so I increased my upload.
Let's see how long it takes to get to 5 seeds ;)

yes they are 4 a long time ago. watch "steel this film" 1/2, it`s about them and how the feds shut them down, they were only 3 guys running the biggest tracker on the web.

now i see most junior members don`t like the idea of torrents, i don`t have nothing against that and apreciate the hard work they do to manage this forum.
iven if someone has something to gain over sharing files on rapidhare sites, i totaly agree on that. i am ashame to say i never donate a buck 4 this forum so i`ll go along with both of sharing modes. RESPECT!
