All Maps 905.XXXX

Postby treasure » Tue Apr 16, 2013 11:01 pm

Thank you for trying to help. I think I need more than a few pieces of advice. Is there a step by step tutorial to install a map from scratch?
First, I plug in my Tom Tom one ED
I erase the content of the SD card (after making a back up)

then what do I do?

I download a navcore? and copy the content to my SD card?
then I copy the folder of my map (Western Europe) I have got one but I'm not sure it is patched or whatever needs to be done on it. How do I know?
Then I copy fast activate on my SD card and run it - I can usually patch navcore and map but not tomtom home
I try my device and it says there is no map!

I have to go to bed now because it's awfully late but if you can give me an answer to what I'm doing wrong, I would really appreciate it. I've been on this for several days and I really need to find a solution. Thanks in advance.

Well, your assumptions are wrong.
You do not erase SD card.
Are you talking about internal storage or memory card
TT Home says no map, you haven't patched TT Home.
You haven't answered single question not have given any solid information about the status of your device and/or files.

Start anew, give us decent information.
Read and act carefully and request information from moderator.
Act accordingly to their wishes and/or instructions.
They know all what you're going to find out if you cooperate.

They will help you but you got to follow their scheme. Step by step.
Because that is a far more efficient, error free and fail safe way than your uncoordinated actions will ever be.

1. If you had success downloading Downunder's pre-patched navcore 9.485, unzip & copy it to your card. Navcore update is complete.

2. Download a map version without the installer to your desktop, & unzip it to your desktop. Put a copy of your device's ttgo.bif file & FastActivate 04.04.2013 in the unzipped map folder. Run FA to patch the map. A successfully patched map will have a .meta.dct file in it's folder. Remove the old map folder from your device/card. Copy the new map folder into your device/card. Map update is DONE.
You are DONE!

Thank you tendriver for your explanations. I tried dowloading a map without the installer but I can't unzip it completely. There is a first step of unzipping is that is done by filefactory but that leaves me with an archive that I cannot unzip because it gives me the message "No archive found" 5348"the archive is either in unknown format or damaged." so I do not get a folder with a .meta.dtc file since I do not go further than a list of archives.(photo included)
What should I do? I use winrar to unzip otherwise.

Winrar is good.

Two options:

1. Try testing the other parts. If you open for example part 2 and press test (or Alt+T or Commands-Test Archived Files) it should test that part and it should result in no error report.

Of course in needs the other parts to be able to fully extract.

You will not extract a .meta.dct since that will be created when you will succesfully execute FastActivate on concerned map.

2. Download part 1 again and see if this one will test okay.

You just won't succeed if WinRAR won't be able to fully extract the map.
I take it the .rar parts are about 200 MB each (last part probably smaller)?

Thank you razorblatter for your answer. I have not been able to do the test you're telling me about because my computre opens these files thanks to file factory and I don't have this option.
I think I have found a reason why I can't open theses files. I dowloaded them without unticking the box:
download with fileFactory's download manager
which installed filefactory on my computer and gives me some files that are .rar.exe that open into .rar.

Can that be an explanation?

I'm trying to download the parts without filefactory and it is VERY long, so I guess I'll be able to see if it works better only tomorrow.

Disregard Razorblatter's posts 122 & 126 for now. We can use this later, if still needed. Continue manually downloading the map 1 part at a time. If you still have numerous parts remaining to be downloaded, you might consider using JDownloader. We could have saved a bunch of time, if we had known you were using fileFactory's download manager.

YES !

Uncheck that stupid box.
That stupid box forces you to download .rar.exe which I don't know what it is but I don't give a **** because I don't want it and I just want to download straight .rar.

Yeah, downloading is a drag but, HEY, it's free.

Perhaps one of the moderators know what to do with the 'checked box downloads' so wait for a reaction from these very wise and experienced boys.

I have downloaded everything, installed everything on my tomtom. The fast activate seemed to have patched navcore,TThome, except I still do not get the meta.dct and I don't understand why.
Now when I switch on my TT, I get the logo at the beginning and immediately a black screen as if it got switched off. I've waited for a while to see if something happened afterwards but no...
As far as the navcore is concerned, I got another version than Downunder's I think since I couldn't find the link for this one.
Then when going into TT home, I noticed that it said there was the map but it couldn't be used because it needed to be activated, so how do I do that? FA did not work or do I need to do something else?
I've never felt so dumb! What a pain!5352

Judging by the weird useless files on your device a clean install might be a good idea.
If you would stop guessing and assuming but instead post the error messages you get we might get to the end some day.
You have problems downloading, following the instructions provided and fail to give the infos we need to help.
Installing a NC and map is a straight forward procedure and only takes a few minutes.

My first problem is that I CAN'T find the navcore 9.485. I appreciate everybody helping but since nobody is giving me an answer on this I keep having to try different things which I CAN find. I have tried what tendriver told me but can't try it fully without having the patched navcore he's advising.
I've explained to you everything that was happening : what other error messages do you want me to give you? I have none. the ones I got was when I was downloading with filefactory.
As for now, I don't get a message error anymore. What is a clean install then? I was told not to erase my SD card a few messages before...
I'm ready to follow any directions if I can understand them. Can we begin with where to find your navcore?

I've been on this for days and believe me I'm trying as hard as I can.

I don't know how you use your PC/Browser or if you cover half of your screen to save energy,
but if I check the General Discussion area I find stickies pointing to various Navcores,
if I check the Navcore section I find even more.
So if you really have that much trouble finding what you need in our forum I suggest to remover the cover from your screen,
maybe what you seek is covered under it? ;)
If you can't find the most prominent things in your section that I highly doubt that you will manage to get any further even with the links right in front of you.

Thank you for your nice replies. I eventually found the link for the navcore. The first thing you should have told me to do maybe was to click on the thanks button. I was taught to thank people after you get what you want and not before and here I guess this is the other way around. That seems obvious for you maybe but it was not for me, I'm sorry.

So if you still want to help me: here is where I am:
I've erased everything to start anew
I've downloaded and unzipped the navcore
I've downloaded and unzipped the map
Everything is now on my TT (I've plugged it in my computer, is that OK, or should I only use the SD card?)
I ran FA in my map folder but no meta.dtc appeared.

However when I switch on my TT, it starts and tells me I cannot use the map West Europe on this GPS. It's a very little improvement since at least it is recognized. What does it mean? Don't I have the right map? I checked on the official TT website with my TT n°: E2 and I was supposed to get "Europe de l'Ouest - Single Map(v9.05) 1130.5 MB" so I got the first one 905 4754 without aut. installer & patcher as you had told me.

Can you help me?
