Previously using:
TT720
Navcore: 9.510
Boot: 5.5120
Map: USA_Canada 950_6492 (internal memory)

Trying to update map to: USA-Canada 985_9156 AND install it to SD card.

I copied the map folder to the SD.
Copied ttgo.bif from TT root to SD.
Copied FA to SD root. Updated. Ran option 2.

Got error: USA>Canada-101060.meta .dct error.

Tried again with FA in map folder on SD. Same error.

I tried finding meta data for 985_8156 but none exists. Not only the data, but in the list of metas it doesn't show 985-8156 even corresponds to USA_Canada (but it does to USA_Mexico, Northern US & Canada, etc.)


Is it true no meta exists for this map and I need to download something else?

Yes, no meta exists for that map so you'll need to download a different map.

You should download the latest 990 series map which does have a meta available: USA Canada 990.8305

Your activation method is correct but FastActivate hasn't been updated to include any 990 series metas yet so follow the instructions at the bottom of post #1 here

Thank you for stopping my wild goose chase.

Just so I have this clear for next time, is this the right order of steps to get a working map:

1) Check the colorful chart to see what maps work with my navcore.
2) Check the Meta post to see if that exact map has a meta code.
3) If it does, proceed to download map.
4) If it doesn't, check for a different map, or wait.

I guess my error was assuming that what I consider a very popular map (USA & Canada) would certainly have meta data.

That's right...spot on actually. You might like to look at some of the finer details in the Map Compatibility Chart tutorial

Meta codes are generously donated by members who have bought the map & shared the meta with the rest of the community...the USA_Canada meta usually is donated but not on 985.8156
