How to force TT Go730 to load map from SD card

Postby mowaten » Fri Aug 26, 2016 1:10 am

Hi everyone,

I recently downloaded Western Europe (970 7466)in place of the 8 year old and outdated Western and Central Europe 2GB.

So, after struggling to find out how to activate them, I managed to get them working both within the TomTom Home app (win 7) which asks me which drive I want to load, F: being the internal memory of the Go 720 and E: being an 8gig SD card with the recently downloaded Western Europe map on it.

The problem you see is that it only works on the PC, the Go 730 doesn't find any map when not connected to the PC, it displays 'carte introuvable' which means map not found in French.

So within the TT Home map moved the original Western and Central Europe 2GB to the SD card by copying from to PC then copying it back to the SD card. It didn't solve the problem. I deleted it, still no change. The latest Western Europe doesn't fit on the internal memory, what can I do guys to force the device to boot from the SD card?

here are some info I got from FastActivate

ttgo.bif:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 730
DeviceVersionHW=GO 730
DeviceSerialNumber=J4xxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=10012
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9510
ApplicationVersion=1234792.103
CurrentMap=Western_Europe_970_7466
CurrentMapVersion=970.7466

Map(s):
E:\Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB\
E:\Western_Europe\

Storage:
Size 7639MB, Free 3927MB

Plug your tomtom device with the USB to your PC or use card reader
On the SD card

1) Biffile (ttgo.bif) copy it from internal to SD card.
2) The map
3) Copy "FastActivate.exe" to your SD-Card ROOT directory.
4) Run "FastActivate.exe" on SD Card.
Select 2.
If you have the latest navcore installed via Home you have to patched it.
Run "FastActivate.exe".
And choose 3
(Be sure you have Internet connection).
5) Done

Back with some feedback, it didn't work.
1) So on the internal memory I copied the ttgo.bif (dated 02/01/2000) to the SD parent directory.
2) The maps are already in the SD card, no change here.
3) FastActivate was already on the parent directory of the SD card, I updated it (option 9) then updated meta.txt (option 1)
4) in FastActivate, again I picked option 2, then option 3.

5) Done but doesn't work. the updated ttgo.bif is now dated to 28/08/2016

I tried, no maps found without the TT HOME app, but within home I can access it.

I just removed the 2008 map from the SD ( by copying it to PC with TT Home) so the only one remaining is the one I downloaded here.

The outcome remains the same!

I'm all ears for new suggestions.

tnx

Go to options, move to change maps, choose the map you want, give it some time to load and you should be set.

As Advised by Jeanet, going for an old 2GB SD (not SDHC) made another map (Benelux 77.48) work in the GPS.

I think the formatting could possibly be a reason why the 8GB isn't working. I'll format it in FAT and will return with feedback..

thank you all

Hello !
For my part, I will copy a "small" map in the internal memory to "start" normally the Tomtom and make the card change to SD by the "preferences" menu ...
A small map: France (450Mo) or Spain (350MB)
A +
