Map For TT XL IQ Routes Edition

Although you can store more than one map on your device, you can only use one map at a time for planning and navigation.

You really need to use the limited United_States_1GB 970_7491

or there is the slightly older fully featured United_States_2GB_965_7250 but at 1.96 GB it will be a very tight squeeze

or buy United_States_2GB_970_7466 = 1.59 GB directly from TomTom

I see a United_States_2GB_970_7466 --- 1.59 GB on the 2nd post down on the 970 maps page....would that one work? It's smaller and according to the chart is has the other features....unless I'm looking at it wrong. I would buy a new unit before I bought a map for half the cost of a new unit! I was reading in the Nuvi posts and it looks like I should just toss my Nuvi 360 in the trash! I only want it to use Tyre to set up a route to drive down south by taking certain roads and avoiding others. Otherwise I think I'll just keep with google maps on my iPhone....once again thanks for the replies and taking the time to help!

Yes. You just have to prepare tour trip and figure out where you will crossing state (map) lines.
Change map and choose your end destination.

You can use TT's online road planner for that or Google Maps.

Obviously I would've suggested United_States_2GB_970_7466 in the first place IF there was meta data released for that map, but there isn't which is why I said you might like to buy it from TomTom.

It's up to you if you want to use your iPhone but personally I'd prefer to use a dedicated sat nav. Map United_States_1GB 970_7491 will give you a lot more functionality and is an 'offline map'....unlike the iPhone.

Take both devices with you and decide on the way...or better yet, fly there and let the pilot worry about whether to use his iPhone or on board sat nav.

I didn't know the 7466 didn't have meta data...bummer. I will toss the 7491 one on and go for it...as long as it tells me when to turn I should be fine! So to do that I just delete the two I just put on and then put the new on in their place?

It'll be fine...yes, download and install the map in the same way you did for the other maps

Thanks, so if the maps have the "Automatic Installer & Patcher" along with it then that map has meta data included? If so the United States 2GB 970 7466 is on there but i am guessing it's too big? It looks small enough but I don't know the unpacked size. I will have to do some reading today to find out what meta data is...I know I would probably get yelled at for asking, so I will look it up. what is the difference between the 4970, 4791 and 4792 maps anyway? According tot he chart they all are the same...is it the size that makes them different?

NO. Check the Meta Codes 970 thread to see if a maps meta code is posted. If so, it is usable.
No featured United_States_1GB 970_7491 is the ONLY CURRENTLY USABLE USA 970 MAP.
I do not give help by PM. It deprives our other members of a chance to learn. Please post your issue in the appropriate forum/thread. You will get an answer.

1. No, that's not the case unfortunately
2. No, it's not too big, it's compressed size is 1.59GB but it has no meta data available
3. Meta data = serial number and without that it cannot be activated. See this thread for available 970 metas
4. See the compatibility chart at the top of the 970 meta data page and the 970 Map collections page for map sizes

thanks guys...im dl'ing 4791 as i type or do you think i would be better off with the original older map v860.3121 with all the included features that came with it? How much could have changed in 6 years? lol Thanks again for the help and info! Let me ask one last complete newbie question though...what is the point of posting a map without the meta data if you cant do anything with it?

1. You're better off with United_States_1GB 970_7491 as the roads will have changed quite a bit since your old map
2. Last answers then....because the map is there ready if somebody donates the meta code from their purchased map
