Not enough disk space on TomTom 1Gb

Postby Janzo » Thu Nov 28, 2013 7:29 pm

Hey guys,
Thanks for this great website! Updated my TomTom One XL with map USA_Canada_1GB_910_4955. Everything works fine, but my TT was about 50Mb short to take all the new map files. So I skipped poi.dat, a minor drag. Is there something else I can delete to make room for the poi.dat file?
Thanks. Jan

1. Where did you get the USA_Canada_1GB_910_4955 map?
2. What navcore do you have?
3. No SD card slot on your XL?

Clean solution: First format the device and download new software with Tomtom home and copying map to tomtom with us speedcams files and activation map with fast activate. Finish. Tomtom will free space after installation.

1. DO NOT DO THIS!!!! We never recommend this, except in the most severe cases!!!
2. Let's get answers to post 2 before getting this radical!!

How large is the poi.dat file?
How much free space do you have without the poi.dat file?

Why not add a SD?
No more problems with big maps after that...

The poi.dat file is 126Mb, but only 83Mb free space on TT, so about 43Mb short.

Not sure how I would add a SD without a slot on the device.

I am thinking to get a poi.dat file from an "Eastern USA and Canada" map and hope it will fit.

You could check the tutorials for that, it is the reason why I made one for this problem...

Thanks, I did read about the soldering, but I am faint of heart. Don't want to mess up my TomTom!
I'll figure out something for the poi's.
Anyway guys, thank you SO MUCH for this website and for your prompt replies. Keep up the good work!

Based on your location, do you need the Canada coverage? If no, you might use:

United_States_910_4952 [823MB], United_States_915_5106[827MB] or United_States_920_5267[736MB]

All 3 are at least 100MB smaller than the US & C map that you now have.
