Hi all,
I'm slightly confused about postcodes here.
Apologies if this question's been answered before, I've done a search but can't find anything.
I have a TomTom One 3rd Edition, Navcore 8.010.
The latest map I've found with a meta is version Western_Europe_1GB_980_7971.
I got it from the link below, but the postcodes link is dead.
http://www.navitotal.com/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=19322
"LATEST POSTCODES Version 975/976 [GREAT BRITAIN, NEDERLAND & SINGAPORE] 975/976.zip.zip"
I've found this link on Google, is this the right postcode file for my new map?
http://download.tomtom.com/open/zipcode/975/great_britain.cab
Or, can any postcodes newer than 980 be used?
Thanks all!

Hi thanks for the reply.
So the 995 postcodes do work with version 980 maps?

Yes, 995 postcodes will work with 980 maps

This is what I don't get though...
If a postcode exists in 995 postcodes, but the road doesn't exist in 980 maps because it hadn't been built yet...
How would it direct me there?

Yes, and what about any new road amendments, speed limit changes, lane priorities etc etc that have arisen in the last year?
Personally, I'd rather have the latest map which includes all of these but it's up to you which map you download...

Roads are always missing from maps.
There has never been an instance in time where I haven't been aware of 5 year old roads missing from the latest maps.
The post code file only appears to contain post codes with their corresponding geo coordinates.
If you look for one of those post codes on a map it might look to be in the middle of a field.
If you ask your TomTom to navigate there it will take you to the nearest road.
Usually a good starting point but discretion is advised. Probably the worst example I've come across is when a new road was by a motorway, 50 yards as the crow fly's but 40 miles by road.

Thanks for the replies.

The map I've downloaded is the most recent Western Europe map that has a meta code and works with navcore 8.010.
Happy to be proved wrong on this though.

I didn't realise the postcodes were just geo coordinates.
I had it in my head that postcodes too new for the map would crash my TomTom.
Makes sense to have the latest postcodes then as I'd rather be directed to a field, then it say postcode does not exist at all!

Yes, you're right about Western Europe 1GB 980_7971 but there are many other more recent Europe maps to choose from...
There's also UK & ROI 995_8549 if you don't really drive in Europe that much.
But as I said before, it's really up to you...

Isn't this map is too big to fit on a TomTom One 3rd Edition ?

I've purposely been looking for Western_Europe_1GB as that is what's on my TomTom at the moment. But the maps I currently have are 8 years old.
I actually have no intention of ever using it to drive around Europe, I just wanted to keep the original type of map it came with, and also it might sell for a bit more the day I finally upgrade lol. I never drive outside of the UK myself.

That's what I suspected...
TomTom13 is quite right because Western_Europe_1GB_980_7971 is 1.20GB so it's too big to fit on your device anyway.
You should use: UK & ROI 995_8549 with the 995 postcodes and everything will be fine
