Worth upgrading NavCore?

Hi,
Got a TomTom One v2 (32Mb) with a 16GB SD card in it.
Currently running the below Navcore / maps
NavCore 9.170
Western/Central Europe 895.4438
North America 895.4438
Off the USA in a few months so thought I'd get my maps updated.
It is worth upgrading the NavCore to the latest version in order to run the latest maps of these regions, or can I just download / FastActivate the newer 975.x maps on this NavCore?
The compatibility chart I've seen on Maps vs Navcore seems to suggest I only need to update the maps. Will a newer NavCore actually be any benefit?

To update the map is enough. If you don,t go to france keep the navcore
otherwise you have to update to navcore 9.510 DSA 32MB ram.

No probs - will look to update the Navcore as well, since I do occasionally pop over to France. Appreciate the pointer...
