Some USB chargers, particularly mobile phone chargers short out the data lines of the USB connection, the mio/Navman sees this as a connection to a PC and tries to go into USB mode, but sees no PC and thinks it's been disconnected so it reboots, so use the original charger, I have seen cases where a different charger has damaged the chip though.

Almost all cheap chinese USB car chargers have the data lines disconnected, so using a standard USB cable with those should work fine.
I personally don't trust chargers that are
a) not USB only (with a USB port, not a cable
b) meant for a different device
The reasons are obvious as there is always a risk to damage.
For example the mini USB connection offers fast charging when the data lines are not connected - that is the standard for most devices.
Some need the data lines shortened for full charge.
Most modern device don't really care if the cable is wrong, the worst is that they only charge with 500mA.
But you also find devices that have no intelligent USB recognition, and those devices need the correct charger to prevent damage.
