No turn by turn problem on a Mio Spirit 685

I have a (mostly) working Mio Spirit 685 running Primo 8.5.11.155811 (thanks to Holyhead). The maps are UK 2017.Q4 and the Base Map says 2012.03.

Everything works except I don't get any turn by turn instructions - all my volumes are set high (Master, Guidance, Alert Beeps, Music & Key). When I go to 'Voice Language' I have a few - all seem to say 'Natural Voice - Street Names not announced'. If I click on any to change the voice I get a spoken sample which seems fine. I can't remember if things were like this from the time HolyHead first helped me get this working so I don't know if it ever gave TbyT instructions. I generally use the Engligh (UK) female Kate v229228.

I am pasting the contents of the Sys.txt file below incase that sheds any light. I am making an assumption that this would normally give Turn by Turn instructions ? But I might be wrong.

I reset everything using the configuration wizard and I tried deleting the 'save' folder, to see if that changed anything - I kept a copy of everything that I deleted but currently the unit is in it's 'reset' state.

First, did you unlock your device so you can run other navs? Secondly, that is not your total sys.txt. Thirdly, post your root files/folders because it appears that your program is not complete.

Thanks very much for reading and replying. Device was 'unlocked' with Holyhead's help using some files he sent me (see earlier posts from myself). Other details of what is on there now is in my first post. All working as far as I can tell.

That IS all of my sys.txt file (in the root). I really appreciate the help.

First, that is not your sys.txt but you told me what I needed to know. FYI, that is what is on your device instead. You're missing two vital files for TTS. Also, you do not have any TTS voices in content\voice. Only natural voices. BTW, I wouldn't have done it the way you did. But, if it works.............. Make sure you read the .txt files for installation. Post your results.

Hi Chas521, Thanks again for reading and replying and taking the time to send me the klink to the files - I am downloading them and will try and use them. The following questions are just for my own understanding.

You say that "First, that is not your sys.txt" - I opened a file called Sys.txt in the root of the device (at least I thought I did !) and copied and pasted the contents - is that not my Sys.txt file ? Where yousay "FYI, that is what is on your device instead" - I don't follow what that refers to - can you enlighten me please ?

PS - I have copied over the files you sent me to the appropriate places - I have not tested them yet but the unit boots and seems to be working. Is there a way to test the voice Turn by Turn without taking it out on the road. Thanks again.

I would be happy to do the whole thing again in a better way if you were happy to instruct me how toy would have done it if you have time and inclination.

If your device is working, then don't do it my way. If it ain't broke don't fix it! If you want to test the program then just run a simulation. Do a Google search as to how to run a simulation in Primo.

Did you choose a TTS voice in settings. One that says street names?

1. You should see either no street names OR TTS voice choices.

2. Don't mess with the files!

Try an actual ride not just simulation.

Hi Chas521, thanks for replying again.
I have tested both the TTS voice file you gave me on an actual route – I get no voice directions. I get speed directions like ‘Slow Down you are going too fast’ etc.
For clarity can I state my needs; I am not the sort of person who always wants the latest or most feature laden things. I just want a plain sat nav that will take me from A to B and directs me on the turns like ‘Turn Left’, ‘Turn Right’ etc. I don’t need road names announced or anything like that just a plain old fashioned SatNav experience. Having said that and seeing as it still does not work can I go back to the beginning and ask you a few things so that I can understand the nature of the problem ?

Once Primo was installed, it did seem to work although I can’t remember if it gave turn directions, I only noticed that recently and I don’t do a lot of driving. You mentioned that it did not seem to be the way you expected it to be when you looked at the file listing. Can I change the installation so that it conforms to the way your think it should be IE one that works on your own device/s ?
4) I am not after changing anything for the sake of it, I just have a long journey to do tomorrow and would prefer to have the audio instructions working for that. Is that possible ?
I work in IT and I am sure I can follow some instructions if you give them to me and especially if you could help me by answering the questions above so that I have an understanding of what is needed and how it works. I would be really grateful for that.

First, can you tell me exactly what you did with my download? Next, did you change the device from running its own nav program to Primo - when it first starts up or do you have to click on anything for it to bring up Primo? DO YOU HAVE THE DEVICE'S ORIGINAL INSTALLATION DISK WITH ALL THE FILES AND FOLDERS SO IT STARTS UP PROPERLY? I'll give you a link to a good Primo program. Just replace ONLY the present Primo files you now have on your device with the same files from the download. Do not format or delete any files that make the device operate! Go slow and make sure you're doing it properly or you might wind up with a paperweight. Make sure that the path is exactly correct. Do not just overwrite any Primo files. Completely delete them and replace with mine.

Hi Chas521, Yet again, thanks for reading and replying.

The device is a Mio Spirit 685 - don't know what it was running, but impossible to update. I appealed on this Forum and Holyhead supplied me with an unlock (?) and it seemed to work. The device's software is not anything the same as it was originally - On booting I get a 'Goode Reis' button that leads to a load screen for the Primo (iGo ?) 8.5.11.155811, which loads and after that works except for the driving audio instructions. He gave me an old map that was apparently damaged and I have replaced that with a 2017.Q4.Map that has licences and works (except the audio).

I followed the instructions in the ReadMe and placed the files in the indicated positions. I also added various bits of text from the 'sys.txt for TTS with International Edition.txt' readme to my sys.txt file which was inside my existing 'Primo' folder. I thought this was correct.

My device connects to the PC no problem and boots no problem.

However, things have changed. After doing a fair amount of reading I decided (as per my previous posts questions) that I probably should not need all the TTS just to get some Trun instructions. I then looked around (today, after I posted my last reply to you) and found a file called;

'iGO Primo 2.2 International Edition by Zervdim Greece.rar'

I read the instructions and backed up my existing files and then copied the whole of the 'Primo2' folder to my device. After booting and finding out that the device could not find the SatNav software, I renamed the 'Primo2' folder to 'Primo' - after booting, waiting, shutting down and rebooting; adding maps and licenses from my old install, I now have an installation of Primo 2.0 that appears to run, and it gives voice directions without any TTS voices etc, that is good.

I am not sure I have an up to date set of speedcams (which I would like), but it seems to work.

As I already indicated I don't need the latest version and if there is no reason not to use what I now have, maybe I can use that ? What do you think ?

The version is reported as iGo Primo 2.0 9.6.2.209584 - should I stay with that ?

Chas521 - Thanks for reading and replying again. I am sorry that these files were stolen from you and that I had no idea that any credit was owed to you. I was mentioning only in an informational way so you knew what was on my SatNav. Thank you for developing them, they seem to work !

Why did I use them and not your files ? Because you hadn't posted the link above at the time when I decided that I probably didn't need TTS files and, as a consequence, I decided the way forward might be to try an (apparently working and complete) system - my concern is that I have a long journey tomorrow and would like the voice direction to be working - thats the only reason.

I am downloading your files now and will try them out and report back to you. Thanks for sending me the link and packaging them up.
