No need to keep the ttsystem, as a matter of fact your device won't boot properly if left in place.
Remove the ttgo.bif as well as instructed!
Boot the device without SD and use the values of the ttgo.bif created on the internal memory of your TT.

Ok, everything removed from SDHC card except europe map directory.

TomTom 520 updated from TomTom, fastactivate copied to the device's internal memory, this is what I see when I select option 2. patch maps....

No because, as stated in post 29, you now have navcore 7.480 installed & Europe 920.5241 is not compatible with it.

Why would it show up?
The ttgo.bif only shows what is active and in use.
If you update through Home you need to patc the Navcore.
Did you switch to the new map?

Yes I patched the navcore with fastactivate after updating via Home.

re switching maps...I only have UK & Ireland maps showing as an option on my TomTom 520 (which is a recurring nightmare here - 5 nights now, still nothing other than UK & Ireland maps showing!) even though the Europe map is a folder showing on the root of my SDHC card.

Do you have any idea what navcore is actually installed on the internal memory??

Good spot & I have zero idea how this has come about. Prior to post 1 of this thread, I used TomTom's site to upgrade everything....after which which had my 520 at V9.510 ....now when I do the same (upgrade my 520 via Tomtom) I end up with an older version?

I guess I now need to think about wiping the internal memory & starting a clean install?

So I downloaded a fresh 9.51 cab here...

Extracted the V9.51 cab file to my TomTOm's internal memory.

Confirmed with fastactivate that I have navcore 9.51 running on internal memory by running fastactivate (option 7), this is what I see...

Ok, this is just perplexing.

Somehow or other, an older Navcore version is finding it's way back into my tomotom - even though I'm not downloading anything (other than a europe 'south' map in lieu of 'europe' map). All I've done is run fastactivate a coupole of times & here's what I'm seeing now ...

Ok...finally! (I think!)

Here's what I had to do.

Totally wipe the contents of my TomTom 520 internal memory
Totally wipe the contents of the SDHC card
Manually unpack a fresh V9.51 Navcore onto the SDHC card (because there were problems for me in spades when I updated via the tomtom servers)
copy all my required maps folders to the SDHC card.

(so, in other words...absolutely nothing running on internal memory - everything on the SDHC card.

Run fastactivate

Only the above procedure worked for me...I think where my problems were occuring was when I was using the internal memory (&/or upfating via the tomtom servers)... my tomtom 520 never seemed to 'suss' what was on the the SDHC card (ever). Therefore the only way I could be sure that I was working all from the one place so to speak, was to do all of this on the SDHC card. For some still unknown reason I was occasionally seeing my navcore revert back to an older copy too!

Many thanks for all your input ...especially to tendriver who had the patience of a saint!

There remains only one issue-ette...my UK maps no longer seem to accept full postcodes as "navigate to" input? (but if push comes to shove I'll sort this out after I've got back from Europe!)

Edit: Well, I've copied the postcode file onto my SDHC card's root downloaded from the 920 map thread on this forum , but postcodes still aren't working - any top tips?

Ok, just so as to inform others who may find this thread by way of google, to get a full UK postcode search working, you actually have to drop your downloaded postcode files into a specific folder called zip, therefore I created such a named directory on my SDHC card & dropped the two files in there - job done :-)

In retrospect totally clear to me now, but what I was doing was extracting the GB postcode files in the ZIP folder called to the root of my device, yes I know it doesn't say 'copy contents of folder ...it says copy the 'ZIP' folder, but when someone is brow beaten & weary, then oversights happen ......so it can surely happen to others, hence posting my resolution here in this thread)

I offer up alternative wording(!)...

Extract the actual folder called 'Zip' to the root of your TomTom "


...the reason I stumbled was because I noticed that in the folder called zip were non UK related postcode files, therefore I dragged only the relevant GB ones to the root of my device (whereas copying the whole ZIP folder without exploring it to see what lay within first would use up SDHC card space). Also, there's a bit of unfortunate coincidental naming in play here..... in that when you zip file you use the term ZIP (as in compress) vs ZIP (as in postcodes) ...too many ZIPS! (zip eh dee doo dah etc etc)
