Help needed in updating navcore Tomtom Go 700

Postby MaverickUK » Sun Feb 09, 2020 10:32 am

Hi
I am sorry to have to ask, but I have scoured the forums and have tried to update my navcore from 7.903 to 9.43 and 9.51 but it will just freeze on the Tomtom hands screen.

I have update my bootloader to 5.5259 which seems to be fine. I am running a patched Wester_Europe_Map v 850_2801.

This is what I have been doing to install the Navocre:

I have downloaded the cab files and then extracted them on my pc using winrar. I have then copied them over to the tomtom and overwritten any files when asked. I have then both (a) used fast activate to patch the navcore and it says it has patched the navcore but when I switch it on it freezes at the Tomtom hands screen; (b) I have also instead of patching straight after copying the navcore files over, rebooted the tomtom, but again it freezes at Tomtom hands screen. I have also wiped the drive on the tomtom and copied over the navcore files fresh and used fast activate to patch - which again it says it has patched, but again freezes on Tomtom hands screen. I have also copied over the ttgo.bif from a backup after copying the navcore files over, but again that makes no difference. I have also copied the system file over from the backup, but again no difference. Everytime it freezes at Tomtom hands screen.

Can someone, kindly tell me how to do this and or where I am going wrong. And also as the navcore's do not contain a system file, should I always keep my system file on the tomtom and not delete it when trying to upgrade the navcore?

Kind regards

Before you start read carefully

How to read the chart.
http://www.navitotal.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=19485

You can give the next procedure a try.

*) Recommended Navcore 9.541 device

[Please Register or Login to download file]

--
1) Make a backup of your Device and delete the content.
--
2) Unpack the* navcore (winrar ) and place folders and files on your Device.
--
3) Reset The Device (minimal 15 sec) and start it till the announcement "No map found"
--
4) Copie the selected map to your Device in his own folder.
If you open the map you see the individual files and probably a folder (brand).
Not a map in a map.
(plain map no speedcams,poi,etc)

i.e.
West Europe is too big so instead try Europe_West 1040_9799
Belgie, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Ierland, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, Monaco
Nederland, Oostenrijk, Verenigd Koninkrijk, Zwitserland

noref.php?url=https://www.filecrypt.cc/Container/79ACC668DF.html
--
5) Copy "FastActivate.exe" to your device
http://www.navitotal.com/viewtopic.php?f=127&t=19452

Run "FastActivate.exe".
Select 2
Done.

6) Give a 15 sec reset and start the device if everything works fine
just then you can ad speedcams etc to the map

We like to hear the result Good or Bad.
And keep away from TomTom Home.

Thank you for that. I will give it a try. When you say run fast activate option 2, do I also need to do option 3 too - ie patch the navcore? And does it matter then that there will be no "system" file on the tomtom after I have deleted everything and installed the navcore?

The navcore is already been patched and you don,t need a system file that is already in the navcore too.

On my tomtom go 700 I have an 8gb transcend compact flash card. I upgraded it many years ago. I have done what you say, but when I restart it - it goes to teh Tomtom logo screen with the finger and loops. I downgraded my bootloader to 5.5128 from 5.5259 to see that made any difference but it doesn't.

Hi
I can install the navocore 9.051, but when I install the Western_Europe_Map 1040_9799 and activate the map with Fastactivate it loops at Tomtom finger and hand screen. Before I activated the map, I swtiched it on and it sees the map but says I can't use it. However, once I activate with Fastactivate then it loops.

Are you using speedcams if so remove them. If that not works try a smaller map

HI
I have tried the Uk map and it does work, which is awesome. Do you know though why it won't work with the Western Europe Map? I am also downloading another version - the 1040-9809 version to see if that will work. It seems though that it didn't like the way the map patched with the Western Europe 1040-9799 version. Is there another patcher?

And on another note - I have recently bought another Tomtom go 700 on Ebay (the one I have been using above has been mine for over 13 years), but I tried the Navcore 9.541 on the Ebay one and it seemed to work as it got to where it says no maps installed. But of course the hard drive on that is only 2.5gb so cannot install the Western Europe Map on that one. Any idea why the Navcore 9.541 seems to work on the Ebay tomtom go 700 but not on my one with the 8gb Transcend Compact Flash card installed. The bootloader on the Ebay is 5.5259.

And as regards speed cameras - are the Pocket GPS UK Zoned one's available on here?

Thank you Holyhead for all your help and persistance.

I have no clue why it is not working with the Western Europe map (2.6GB). I expect the map is too big.

The patcher is allright
And on another note - I have recently bought another Tomtom go 700 on Ebay (the one I have been using above has been mine for over 13 years), but I tried the Navcore 9.541 on the Ebay one and it seemed to work as it got to where it says no maps installed. I suspect that navcore 9.541 also is working on the one with 8gb Transcend (i.e UK) but not with the West Europe map because it is too big. Stick to the 9.051 it works. I don,t know what the advances are with the 9.541. Everybody always,s want the latest navcore (but official for the 700 the latest is 7.903)
The bootloader on the Ebay is 5.5259.

And as regards speed cameras - are the Pocket GPS UK Zoned one's available on here?
Not to my knowledge.
We use the TT speedcams
