Locking emulation on an SE navcore to (remove emulation menu?)

Fri Feb 08, 2013 11:00 am

How do I remove the Emulation menu to make a device novice friendly?

I recall reading something to this effect, I think just involved modifying a file in notepad and setting a certain emulation code.
I searched for a while but couldn't find the thread.

Thanks in advance :)

SE Navcores don't have menus for the emulation...

My mistake. The navcore on this device (Go930) is "9485 for go models" one of yours from this thread I downloaded a while back.

I think what I read was this:

"The available emulations are stored inside the file "reskin" in the folder "skins" - you can edit it with a normal texteditor but make sure not to save any file extension.
In case your device freezes or has a reboot loop with a new emulation it means this emu is incompatible.
To solve it replace your current reskin file with the one from the archive,
edit the line and remove the emulation that caused the problem,
try the skin chooser and select a different emulation"

Does this mean one can remove certain emulations, but perhaps not remove the emulation menu entirely?

Just some more specific info - this device has what I suspect is a faulty light sensor causing flickering (rapid dimming and brightening of the screen) when using the standard 9.465 firmware.

The symptom disappeared when I put the your modified 9.485 firmware on.
It also seems to enable the voice command option (in x50 mode at least) which seems to be missing from the standard firmware?
I'd just like to be able to hide the emulation menu so it's not played with.

If the reskin file is set correctly there is no need to remove anything.
It can only be a faulty sensor if not just the screen changes brightness but also the color scheme, so use a different one for the night view ;)
In case the the scheme does not change you have a faulty device,
I could not tell if it is caused by a faulty scrren or a fault on the circuit board.
In any case you shold check it with a full battery and charger connected to rule out power problems.

And what stops you trying the 9.465 SE to have the intended NC on it, assume you are trying to sell it.

As you stated in post 3, 9.465 is the current navcore for a 930. Use a SE version, which is defaulted to a X40 emulation. To change the default, use notepad to create a model.txt file for the desired emulation & copy it to the root of the device.

FYI, the SE X50 emu uses time for auto day/night, rather than the light sensor.
