2. Tiny bit off the thread topic but if the GPS continuously gets into a state where it boots up in that special run where it displays the warning and "Welcome to your TomTom" screen etc. does that confirm my suspicions that the battery is indeed failing?
If I use my GPS within a few hours it seems to boot up fine but if I go a day or two without using it then it does the whole "First Run" setup crap.
1. Ok. You can use whatever emulation suits you best. Normally there are two ways to toggle day/night colours, the first is a manual change from one to the other and the second is found within the preferences where you can set it to change automatically but that option needs to be turned on to work....sounds like yours isn't.
2. No, that is normal. If you hit the power on button and you hear the TomTom drum roll and then have to agree to the warning screen, you know that the unit was previously turned off but if you hit the power button and you go straight into the main screen, then the unit was actually in standby mode (only the screen was off but unit was still active). If the unit is always in standby mode, your battery will deplete very quickly but it will hold it's charge if it's turned off completely. This is what makes you think that your battery is stuffed...it's not.
There is a workaround for this if you want the device to turn off every time you hit the power button to save battery:
Open up a text document and enter a number (say 300) which is an amount of time in seconds, then save and close it and rename the file 'suicide.dat' and copy it to the root of the device.
Now when the power button is pressed the device will go into standby mode but will power down completely after 5 minutes.
Personally I'd rather have the official NC 9.510 installed and use the suicide.dat file to save battery rather than use the 'auto power on' NC but it's up to you.
