Navcore 9.510 with auto-power-on

Hi Tendriver,

Thank you!

No, I have not tried Navcore 9.540.2. I have 9.510, because it was the version that was installed when I did a "check for system updates" using TomTom Home. I figured that version 9.510 was the latest version available for my device because I downloaded it directly from TomTom using TomTom Home. Do you know how I can download Navcore 9.540.2? Do I have to uninstall 9.510, or will 9.540.2 overwrite it? Please forgive my ignorance, I really don't know how to customize a GPS device, I am fumbling along on my own. Do you happen to know what the differences are between 9.510 and 9.540.2? Thanks for your help!

Best wishes,
Julie

Hi Downunder35m,

Thank you for your message!

I still have some questions. As I have said, I am really new to all of this, and I think I need everything spelled out to me at this point. Thank you for your understanding!

You said that some menu items are simply not available or won't function with a custom menu. Do you mean that the ability to switch voices and the ability to switch car icons are still not available on a custom menu? I know those features were not available on a custom menu with earlier versions of Navcore, but I thought that maybe the code had been updated since then so that those 2 specific features (switching voices, switching car icons) could be available on a custom menu. But I understand if the programming just won't allow for it, no matter what. Please let me know.

You mentioned the X20 or X30. What are those? Models of GPSs? I have the 550 XXL TM. It doesn't have a Sim card slot to my knowledge but it does have live updates of traffic and lifetime downloads of maps.

I guess I'm just wondering if I can (or if I need??) to create a custom menu at all... I'm nervous about it, but I will definitely create a backup as you suggested. The only feature I really want is the "Browse by Text" feature. From what I've read, that feature seems to have been restored with the more recent releases of the firmware. I have not tried it out yet, but from what I can tell, it is accessible from the "Details" section of "Route Planning"? I guess I got caught up in all of the complaints about the EasyMenu and that it took away (or hid?) a lot of the cool features that other people really like (such as the Compass...? What does the compass do? Tell you which direction you are heading as you drive?) In your opinion, is it worth creating a custom menu, given the features that have been re-released in the more recent versions of the firmware? I am happy to create a custom menu (and kind of curious/excited to try it!), but I don't want to mess anything up or lose features that I might have otherwise liked that are not available on a custom menu. Please advise.

Thank you so much!!

Best wishes,
Julie

Have to say I neither used nor looked for the browse by text feature and so far you are the only user actually talking about it.
In the tutorials there is info to learn, for a custom menu as well.
But I doubt it can be done this way as I never saw this option anywhere so it would be Navcore and device specific.
Same for the modes, like X20 and X30, they TT models, tutorials will tell you more ;)
I would not bother and just use a good working Navcore, will make an installer for the 9.540 as well later on.

Hi Downunder35m,

Again...thank you!

Hehehehe...I am the only user who has talked about the "Browse by Text" feature? Oh, I am so looking forward to using it! From what I can tell, by using it you are able to view turn-by-turn directions for your route, so that you have a preview of where the TomTom is sending you (Turn left at Street A in 5 miles, then turn right at Street B, for example). From the TomToms that I have seen in the past, you can only see the immediate instruction and the upcoming one. I want to be able to see a full list of all of the turns coming up!

Please forgive me...how do I access the tutorials to create a custom menu, etc.? Should I do a search in these forums, or is there a direct link you can send me?

I don't think I can buy a new model (X20 or X30)...I only have the TomTom 550 XXL TM. What will the tutorials tell me about new models (devices)?

Do you mean that you will post a downloadable file so that we can download the 9.540 Navcore firmware?

Thanks for everything!!

Best wishes,
Julie

2. What does the compass do

1. Mod. navcores give the user the option to emulate/simulate different units. Example. If you set the navcore for X20 (GO 520, 720, 920), you will have the X20 features, except the ones that your unit doesn't/can't support.
2. Nothing. The last devices to have a compass were the XXL 530/540 series & the 2010 Rider.

Hi Tendriver,

Thank you SO much for the information you provided!

So there is a way that I can download a navcore that will allow my XXL 550 TM to have the same features as other models? That's great!

Do you know if there is a Navcore that I can download (that is compatible with the XXL 550 TM) that can have the following features:

1. Change Voice
2. Change Car Icon
3. Prepare Route (fastest route, shortest distance, walking, etc.)
4. Browse as Text / Browse as Images / Browse map of route / Show route demo / Show route summary / View route (all found by hitting the "Details" button on the route summary screen)
5. Multiple stops (add a waypoint to the route)
6. Any other features that you think are particularly helpful/useful/interesting

Can I get all of the above on the X20 or X30, do you know? If so, do you know how I can download that Navcore? Please advise. Thank you, thank you!

Best wishes,
Julie

The 2 button menu devices like yours can be a bit squirrely with a 6 button full menu. I would load Downunder's 9.540.2 and play with the x20, x30, x40 & x50 emus. You can't hurt the unit just testing it.

Hi Tendriver,

Thank you again for your communication.

Please forgive my ignorance...I have no idea how to find Downunder's 9.540.2 version of Navcore, and once I find it, I don't know how to download the x20, x30, x40, or x50 emu's. Is there a direct link to the download page with detailed instructions that you can send me?

Thanks so much!

Best wishes,

Navcores are located in the Navcore section, in this case as an Installer.
All you need to know is inside the tutorial section or can be found in corresponding threads to the topic.
With my Navcores you select the Emulation over the menu of the TT.

Hi Downunder35m,

Thank you!

I found your installer for the 9.540.2 Navcore. I made a backup of my TomTom files first, and then I "wiped" the device clean (you mean that I should delete all of the files in the TomTom folder, correct, as long as I have the backup?) 15 files remained in the folder. Is that correct? I assume those files cannot be deleted?

When I tried to download your file, a pop-up window came up, telling me to sign up for a 15-day free trial of Usenet.nl Is that the way your download works? I need to have a free trial of the Usenet software in order to download your files? Please advise before I go any further. Thank you very much!

Best wishes,
Julie

If you end up on usenet you clicked on an ad, all my files can be downloaded as a free user with no charge.
There should be no files left on the device after wiping it, you only might copy the ttgo.bif from the backup on it so FastActivate can generate a DCT file for the map.

Hi Downunder35m,

Thank you again for your help!

I went here to download your installer: post139317.html?hilit=9.540.2#p139317

Is that correct?

When I click that link, I am directed to a LinkCrypt website which asks me to click inside an open circle. However, there are quick-moving large black boxes that flash over the screen, so I am unable to find an open circle. When I thought I found an open circle, I clicked it and the webpage said I was incorrect. The most frustrating thing is that the UseNet window pops up and fills almost the entire screen, so I am unable to do anything useful on the page. Please forgive my ignorance...what am I doing wrong? Is there an easier way for me to get to your installer? Does the installer run through the LinkCrypt website, or did I click on something I wasn't supposed to?

Any help you can provide will be most useful!

The good news is that when I checked the TomTom folder earlier today, it looks like it has been wiped clean. The 15 files that I saw the other day are no longer there, from what I can tell. I have a full backup of all the files in another folder.

Thank you so much!

Best wishes,
Julie

1. Focus on 1 spot on 1 half of the screen. If no open circle, when the black box uncovers you focal spot, then move your spot. Do this until you see the open circle. If it isn't in the first half, then do the same thing in the second half.
2. Click the upper right corner of the UseNet window, & it will go away.

Hi Downunder35m,

I think I was finally able to get through on the LinkCrypt website -- hooray! Thank you!

However, when I try to save and then run the downloaded file, I am bombarded by pop-up windows, and I even got re-routed to Usenet... I wish it were easier for me to download and run your files! I'm so sorry that I am so awful at this!

What is a mirror file? Am I supposed to download and run the installer.exe file from File Factory or the mirror file? I tried downloading the installer.exe file, and I get a download.exe file from foresting.info, and then I get prompted that I need to install a video player, which then downloads a setup.exe file from downloaddart.com My anti-virus software pops up saying that it is blocking some files. All of this seems like adware/malware/spyware to me. What am I doing wrong?!? Please help me! It doesn't look like I am clicking on ads, but apparently I am, and they are trying to hijack my computer. Could you please tell me exactly what I am supposed to click, where the files are coming from, and how everything should look?

Thank you so much!!

Best wishes,
Julie
