navcore for TomTom GO 720

Postby msine13 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 6:04 pm

oh.. just chose that because someone said it worked on theirs. i would rather use whatever is most compatible for the GO 720 (tried and tested)... it's not my unit so I would like to play it safe :)

I have 9.205 on my 720. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of it's intended device.

Copy the current navcore on the 720 to a card.
Go here: Latest Navcores Download the 9.205.cab & X_ttsystem.9.205.547817.1.rar Copy the .cab files to the card, overwriting any common files. Copy only the ttsystem & PNDNavigator files from the .rar to the card, overwrite any common files.
Download Australia_865_3245 [126.1MB] Unzip it & copy the map folder to the card.
Go here: FastActivate ENG 28.03.2011 {1.8.6.6} Read the instuctions carefully. Download, unzip & run FastActivate. Click the map button.
Insert the card into the unit, if not already there. Boot the unit.

Thanks for those instructions tendriver. I did them as you instructed but now TT wouldn't start up- it just keeps restarting itself at the start screen. This is for the TT unit, not TT Home on the computer.

So I deleted all the files from the internal memory and transferred all the files from SD card to the internal memory but the same thing happens- it just keeps restarting itself.

I have checked my maps- it is patched (there is a dcf). There is also a meta txt file in the root directory.

1. To clarify, I dl the cab file as per your instruction, but I didn't dl any other Navcore files.. is that correct?

2. I also only copied those 2 files (TTsys & PND) but did not extract switch files on .rar... is that correct?

And to think I was quite confident of getting this right after all the dramas I had with mine! :( Thanks for your patience tendriver :)

*. NO, NO!! why did you do this????
**. OK
1. A. OK. B. any other navcore files. Such as??
2. Correct.

Did you do all this with the card in the device or was it in a card reader.

*: i thought that maybe it had to do with an incompatible SD card (but it should have worked, super SDHC). It has everything that the SD card has... essentially it was the original files plus all your instructions :) I still have a backup of the original if I have revert to anything.
B. SE 9.025 or something?

It's a direct SD card, not a micro SD in a card reader...

I hope I''m not beyond saving :(

1. Confirm that by original files, you mean all of the files from the internal memory, except the map folder. By "new navcore", you mean the .cab files. Confirm that there is a ttgo.bif file on the card.
2. "that .rar thing" doesn't belong on the card, just the ttsystem file & the PNDNavigator file from it.
3. Map or maps?

1. yup, all files from internal memory except map folder. i mean .cab files. there a ttgo.bif on the card. and i'm hoping that is the answer!

2. yup, just the ttsys and PND

3. Map- sorry, wasn't specific enough :)

SORRY SORRY.
there IS a ttgo.bif file. It's just that it says "ttgo" but I only just noticed the extension of bif now.

apologies. looks like that's not the answer :(

To recap:

The card has all of the internal memory files, including a ttgo.bif file, except the map + the .cab files, which overwrote any common files + the ttsystem & PNDNavigator files from the .rar, which also overwrote + the new map folder. If there is a mapsettings.cfg file in the map folder, remove it for now. With the card in the unit, reboot.

OK- I went a bit further.
I reverted my internal memory to the original files. Started the unit. It worked.
Then I deleted (not format) all the files from my SD card and started from scratch. Copied the original files back into the SD card, did all your earlier instructions.
Put the card back into the slot and it started!!! :dance_mini:

Now, there is a new issue though- the moment I tap the screen of the unit to try and get into menu settings (such as navigate to, or change preferences or anything)... it freezes, then reboots automatically. The status bar is perfectly fine, I can change the volume, I can change 2D to 3D.. but the moment I try and access the menu settings, it freezes (goes a bit grey) then reboots itself.

I am wondering if I should reformat the SD card and try again- this card was previously used a mac. But I have checked the properties and it's FAT32.

There isn't a mapsettings.cfg file in the map folder.

What I will try next is to remove the SD card and make changes (as per your instructions) directly to the internal memory and see how that goes. Thanks tendriver, I will keep you updated. For now, it's goodnight :) Maybe a clear head in the morning will help me!

Thanks again for your patience- please let me know if you accept private donations, I have already given some to navitotal but am more than happy to show you some appreciation too....
