I'm a courier so use my sat-nav quite often, after installing 9.161 when i turn the ignition off i get a message say after 10 sec the TT will power off, ive checked the device stays on when eternal power is lost (or something like that) but i still get that message and have to press cancel everytime.

I am assuming there is a setting i need to change?

There is a setting allowing the TT to shut down when external power is lost, if unticked the TT wil stay on.
But:
a) it might help to know about what device we are talking
b) a differnt NC might not cause any problems

Downunder is referring to Main Menu, Change preferences, Battery saving preferences, Switch off when external power is lost (uncheck this option). If already unchecked or no change after unchecking, follow Downunder's comment b).
