2. I then installed Europe Truck 937.5945. The map was patched using the latest fastactivate.
3. Everthing was done as per imformation given in downunder's post. The tomtom goes to the legal notice ( I agree )then voice not available , then none of the voices can be used with the current language. If I continue from none of the voices , I can go to next screen but if I stay on none of the voices screen will reboot to legal notice. Eventually on any screen will reboot to legal notice . I know that I need to add voices with the loquendo folder and have actually done this on a previous install process but tomtom continually reboots. The map actually works and I have planned and viewed route demo with sound but will reboot.<br abp="1430">Any ideas what is happening ?

1. Order of installation is irrelevant.
2. OK.
3. Did you by any chance copy the mapsettings.cfg file from the old map folder to the new map folder? t

It is an option. It contains all of your personal setting, so you don't have to re-enter them with a new map. It sometimes causes the reboot issue, & there is a fix for it.

Tendriver, many thanks for your reply.

Since my last post I have tried to do a bit of elimination.

I used another TomTom Go 500 and installed the same navcore , map etc and the TomTom worked fine.( no rebooting )

However the original TomTom is still rebooting continuously with a newly formatted sd card and new installation, having done a reset with the button on the bottom.

At one stage I had the bios ? settings of the u/s tomtom up on the screen and it said startup mode in reboot.

Also , with the sd card out , startup mode was sleep

Does this help at all ?

Going back to the actual navcore itself , i believe it is already patched , yet when I go to TomTom Home and try to " operate my go " with the working tomtom , it says

This functionality is not yet supported for your combination of your navigation device,
devices application version and your computers operating system

Is this the message for unpatched navcore ?

If I use the latest fastactivate , it says navcore already patched.

Can anything be done for the u/s tomtom ?

Many Thanks

1. This is a pretty good indication that the navcore is patched.
2. What bootloader is in both 500s?
3. Point 1 confirms that it is patched.
4. No.
5. As it should.
6. It's a "work in progress". An answer to point 2 is the key right now.

1. Have you tried putting this setup in the original 500 with no changes [as is], except repatching the map for the original 500?

Tendriver,
I used Downunders Universal Navcore for 32 MB devices on both TomToms.

I followed the same procedure for both TomToms.

To see if it was the tomtom or the sd card at fault I exchanged the working tomtom sd card with the u/s tomtom sd card and visa versa.

Repatched the maps by swapping over the ttgo.bif ' s in the sd cards and used the latest edition of fast activate.

Working tomtom continued to work with the u/s tomtom sd card and the u/s tomtom still booted continuously with the working tomtom sd card.

I thought then it pointed to the u/s tomtom itself being faulty.

Thanks Again

I agree. Let's try a couple of things on the unit itself.
1. A 30 second hard reset. If no help,
2. Run the Clear Flash Tool several times: tutorials-f80/tomtom-clear-flash-tool-t1914.html#p7159. If no help,
3. Go Main Menu, Change Preferences, Reset Factory settings.

1 ) no diferent , still rebooting

2) no diferent , still rebooting

3)After resetting factory settings , after rebooting , comes up with change language.

I select English UK ( and confirm )

then the following

right hand
miles
truck
select truck specifications
warning
select time
select voice
info about computer generated voice
select home
continue then reboots to ( change language )

This repeats itself every time it reboots and I have to put in all the settings again.

Except the time , the time is always correct , whether I select 12 hour or 24 hour clock

Sounds terminal ?

Thanks again

ps not sure whether it is important but drums not sounding after rebooting .

Tendriver , sat here for a while and don't really know why but I decided to press the reset button under the bottom of the unit.

One thing I had noticed before but didn't know if it was relevant , is that when on the gps status page , while I have been having problems with this unit , the " ball " that turns when looking for satellites was stationary.

The tomtom this time , stayed on , so I could access more screens.

I went to the gps screen and the " ball " was turning.

Has not rebooted since.

Will let you know tomorrow if this is still the case but been on now for 30 minutes or so.

Thanks Again.

Any of this make sense ?

I requested above that you do "A 30 second hard reset." You replied "no diferent , still rebooting." Then you posted "I decided to press the reset button under the bottom of the unit". This is AKA "A 30 second hard reset." What did you actually do in response to my hard reset request?
BTW, Most of the items to select in post 221 are what I was referring to as being in the mapsettings.cfg file.

Tendriver,
Sorry if I misunderstood but I thought the hard reset was holding the on/off button for 30 seconds.
My apologies.
Will keep you imformed.

Thanks Again

Not all units have a reset button on the case bottom. For them, a hard reset is holding the on/off button for 30 seconds

Yes.

Today attempted to do this, as follows
19 Oct 14: Card reformatted for use with ONE XL unit.
19 Oct 14: Copied ttgo.bif file and VocalizerTTS folder [Serena only] to card from “TomTom 2GB 'C' SD card for ONEXL = NC8545 + Western_and_Central_Europe_880._3810 and Canada Alaska 880.3810 maps” [a backup on my pc].
19 Oct 14: Loaded new navcore 9.510 (32Mbit) from Navitotal’s "Universal Navcore Installer".
19 Oct 14: Added United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_935_5753 map [from Navitotal - shows as compatible in chart]. Used latest FastActivate to patch map [successfully].
19 Oct 14: Unfortunately, ONEXL reports:”Problem with map You cannot use this map on this device: United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-100104”.
Tried complete procedure again with the same result.

Grateful for any advice you can offer.

[My object is to load a more up-to-date UK map and retain the IQ Routes, ALG and TTS functions I now have with the older NC8545 and 880 maps on my ONEXL.]
