Vocalizer voices with Rider 5 emulation + TMC discussion

Fri May 08, 2015 11:30 am

Hi all,

I have a question as to where i did not find an answer using the search function.

I have a Tomtom One (v1) running Navcore 9.500 with DSA emulation (the latest Rider version for these devices). I cannot get the Computer Voices to work at all (LoquendoTTS or VocalizerTTS).

It looks like the Rider 5 Emulation Navcore is not capable of running Computer Voices. Whatever i do, they do not show up in the menu.

If i select the X30 emulation, Xander (Dutch VocalizerTTS voice) shows up and works without any problems.

So is it true that the Rider 5 simply doesn't support Computer Voices? Or is there something wrong with the Emulation?

Thanks!

The Rider does not use computer voices, so they won't work in the emulation either.
Also there is no way I know to patch the Navcore to change this behavior.

Thanks for the response! Then i know that trying this is in vain.

Thanks again!

(spent quite some time already in getting this to work).

TMC with Navcore 9.500 / Rider 5 emulation

Additional question (not really worth opening a new topic for imho):

With the above setup, is it possible to connect and use an USB TMC receiver? The One v1 shouldn't have problems with it from what i understand, but will the Navcore 9.500, and more importantly, the Rider 5 emulation play nicely with it?

The original Rider 5 doesn't seem to support TMC from what i can find?

I've read that this has been a test case when you released the 9.500 Navcore, but i haven't found any new developments since then).

Changed the topic title btw. Makes it easier for others with the same question to find this information. :)

I don't know if a TMC receiver will be supported and if it is I doubt it works in all emulations.
If you have one test it, if not don't buy one until a Rider user can confirm that is does work.

I ordered an unofficial TMC receiver which i'm gonna try with the One v1, Rider 5 emulation and Navcore 9.500.

I also have the x30 emulation on the device, which supports traffic with a seperate "Traffic" tab.

I think 9.500 will support TMC but the Rider emulation will fail to work with it.

In case the Navcore supports TMC, but the Rider emulation doesn't. Is it possible to alter the skin or emulation so that it can support TMC?

I thought i read somewhere sometime that you can add functions to a Navcore / Emulation?

You can not add what is not included in an emulation.
Dark Mireille did some mods with the first Rider Navcore and claimed it is quite easy and straight forward but noone managed to copy or improve on that for other Navcores.
Just try it out and if your are lucky TMC works in all conditions, in any case report back in regards to the Rider emu.

Thanks alot! Will do!

I should receive the TMC Receiver today. Gonna test it out then and report back my findings. :)

Well, i received the receivers yesterday, but they didn't seem to contain any TMC hardware unfortunately. So i ended up buying an official receiver today (for a pretty good price). Here are my findings:

Setting is still the same: Tomtom One v1 with Navcore 9.500. I did experiment with different emulations though.

I connected the TMC receiver within the Rider 5 emulation. Here it says: "accessory not supported". This also goes for the rider 1, 2 and 3 emulations (ID's 5 and 17).

I also tested the "Self emulation" (no idea what kind of a device this is supposed to represent? A Tomtom One v1 with a Navcore 9.500 touch)? Here it gives the same error, "Accessory not supported".

It gets interesting when i use the X30 emulation though. I also have this emulation on the device because it seems to have quite some additional features that other emulations don't have and at the same time, still runs stable and smooth on the One.

When i connect the TMC receiver in X30 emulation, the receiver is recognised, the traffic bar shows up. After a few minutes, the dot turns green and all seems to work smoothly and well. This is again on the 9.500 Navcore!

So it seems the 9.500 Navcore works with TMC, the emulation gives problems, depending on if the "device" supports TMC or not. I am asking myself. Why isn't it working on other emulations? The menu structure and buildup up of the different devices all seem the same. Should it really be (easily) possible to add TMC to the Rider 5 emulation? I honestly don't know what the difference between the Tomtom's are except for a different menu structure and buildup (software wise).

Would the receiver be recognised if you add the "traffic" menu structure? Maybe i'm thinking to easy about this, but the base (Navcore) is the same for the different emulations, so to me it seems like it comes down to the enabled menu options within the emulation? :bs_quesexclaim:

It is a marketing thing with TT.
We all know that the Navcores are working on all devices, given the right "patching" - but this does not mean all features will work too.
The emulations simulate a different type of hardware for the Navcore but they can not substitude for things TT does not want to work on a different device.
Think of it like a DVD for each emulation that you can read but not write to.
A good Linux "hacker" would certainly be able to dissect the Navcore a re-direct some hardware points to work but noone bothers to do so.
Changing the menu won't help either as the Navcore still can't "see" more hardware this way.

Mmh. To bad :022:

But you don't say it is not possible. Given a good linux hacker can look into the issue?

So the hardware calls of the TMC receiver need to be added to the Rider emulation, then it should be able to recognise it. Does the "traffic menu" also need to be added to the Rider emu? I guess so.

Where is all the data of one or more emulations stored? Is that the 8 MB "skin" file? Should this also contain those hardware calls and all other lines of codes specific to one or more emulations?

Sorry for the questions, i'm an IT specialist but i don't have in-depth knowledge of Linux unfortunately (i know that Tomtom have long been portable Linux computers basically).

It is like changing any other operating system / software combination...
The emulations won't help you with it as the entire thing is handled on the Navcore base.
Again: All that is needed for many devices is included in all Navcores, the emulation fools the Navcore into thinking the hardware is different.
So if you want to make changes you have to make them inside the TTSYSTEM, PNDNAVIGATOR and maybe even the encrypted .CHK files.

Aha!

So it should be possible to add the hardware calls of the TMC receiver in one of these files so that the Rider emulation might recognise it?

Then i understand that each emulation within the DSA Navcores use different files (as e.g. have a different TTSYSTEM it reads from)? Are these all seperate and different files or are they combined in a single file?

So the supported features and hardware per emulation are defined by those files?

Thanks!

(Sorry for all the questions, i'm trying to understand how the Navcores work in conjunction with the emulation). :)

I only see one instance of those files on my Memory Card.

I guess it wouldn't be that simple as to simply swap those files with TMC supported files from another device/Navcore.
