Navman S-50 help

Postby stovies » Tue Jul 29, 2014 10:49 am

Hello newbie here, found this site as I was trying to do something better with my Navman S50 as I can't update it.

so I have managed to unlock it and I have Miopocket installed ( there are lots of icons that don't anything ), so I would like to put Tomtom on it so I can update it, but reading the forums it seems a bit of a minefield and I am lost as to what to do now.
I have managed to get tomtom on the device and I have an icon on the desk top but that is as far as I have managed to go, when I go there is says there are no maps and I need to install them but I don't know where to? I have put Miopocket on the 2G SD card.

any help would be good thanks

My suggestion is to NOT install Tomtom on a WinCE device but to install IGO instead. TT is basic only and difficult while IGO is full of options and you can update the content here for free. Go and look at the IGO section here.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

For some reason i missed your last reply in the other thread!

You want UK & ROI 930.5601 and FastActivate, both can be found in the tomtom sub forum. When you have these post back for further instructions...

If it was my device i would uninstall miopocket and install the mio_moov.zip unlock from the other thread.

Also the tomtom version for Windows is extremely basic, take a look at iGO Primo, which runs perfectly on the S50, is a much better app, is much easier to install and has regular updates like tomtom.

It seems that Miopocket takes up room, so I will take your advice and remove it from the device, but How? should I just remove it from the SD card or try somehow from the device with the Card in. I did try but it won't let me.
I just need to look for the mio_moov.zip unlock.
Thanks

Somewhere in miopocket there is an uninstall option, this 'should' return your device to its original condition.

Then go here...

mio-device-unlock-f140/run-igo-primo-mio-moov-and-navman-series-and-some-t8169.html

And follow the instructions exactly.

I have a S50 sat on my desk at home so i know it works.

I have found the Unintsal Icon but when I press it is comes up with the message of
"unknown command 'include'
Line:
Include("Variables.mscr")

What about how to do it in Windows?

Did you install miopocket to the SD card, or to the device?

Because the USB connection is handled by the Navman software (AppStartupSec.exe), if it isn't running then you can't access the device by USB. So you can't just delete the files without undoing what it did.

If you installed it on the card then remove it and reboot, what happens?

Ok I have removed the card and started up the Navman, it has a few Icon words but no pictures
Miopocket,tomtom, smartST and taskbar Toggle.
when I go and hit START, I have a drop down menu with the following,
FilemanCE
Miopocket,
power menu,
Smart ST
Toggle minbar
then Games
mutimedia
navigation,
office
settings
and then tools,
at the bottom, I have Settings and Task manager..
does this help?
can I remove it through the windows on the device as I haven't plugged it in to the laptop.
or remove it from the SD card all-together and then put the card back in.

Did you make a backup before you installed miopocket?

Ok, don't do anything until you've checked. Navman and some mio devices can be rendered useless if a certain service (AppStartupSec.exe) isn't running.

It just so happens i have somebody's S50 on my desk at home for a map upgrade, so i can get files and registry info from it.

I don't want you to fall into the same trap others have fallen into.

I need to check a registry entry before you can restore the backup.
