Australian Maps Here

Postby 1825dudley » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:37 am

I have downloaded the 9 parts of the file, extracted them into one file and loaded it onto my SD card, but my Garmin head unit says that it can't unlock the map. Can you help? On the SD card I have a folder called "Garmin" with 2 files in it; 1) GMAPSUPP and 2) GMAPSUPP.UNL
The map is just over one Meg and the other file is one KB. I am guessing that is the unlock key. Is that right? Any advice would be very appreciated.

Istead of posting outdated links you should use the latest version from here.
I'm not 100% sure but it seems nobody cares for the rules anymore - before posting new links please check what you do and if it is already posted!

I will apologise in advance for my stupidity, but I am new to all this tech stuff. So far I have managed to download the 9 parts of the file and extract them into one file. This is called "GMAPSUPP" and it is just over 1 meg in size. I then copied this to my SD card inside a folder called "Garmin". My chartplotter on my boat can't unlock it. I tried it with both the lock on and off on my SD card and still no good. I noticed that when the SD card is unlocked I end up with another file on my card called "GarminDevice" which is 2kb in size. I also found another small 1kb file called "GMAPSUPP.UNL" which I thought might be the unlock key so I put that on my SD card, inside the "Garmin" folder, but still no luck. When my chartplotter first boots up I can read on the bottom of the screen that it has picked up the chart because it says something like "Brisbane to Geraldton", but then I get a big screen saying "Can't unlock chart". I bought this chartplotter in the USA so it is preloaded with the USA map, which is useless to me here in Oz, so if someone can help me I would be greatly indebted.
Many thanks in anticipation.

I have just read through and followed your suggested links and found the answers, software and instructions that I had been looking for. It took me a few atempts but I have finally got a (hopefully) unlocked map on my SD card. I will try it the next time I am on my boat and let you know if it works. Thank you so much for all your help. I don't know how you guys do it, but you must be geniuses.
