I'm not understanding too. There are three files in the Garmin folder: gmapsupp.img - HXEU718A - HXEU718B. I've unlocked each one with gimgunlock, but, to open them in the Plotter, i've to rename single files? Thanks

The information is all in the first post. HXEU718L is the main map. HXEU718A is a small piece around Morocco. HXEU718B is the DEM map

Unfortunately, the new controls introduced in recent firmware versions are not currently bypassable.
For some GPSMAP models, those mentioned on this page: [Please Register or Login to download file]
a Downgrade to version 2017.0825 should be sufficient (the latest release WITHOUT the controls mentioned above)
You can download it from this link:
[Please Register or Login to download file]

To allow the Firmware Downgrade, a special procedure is required
GPSMAP Marine ChartPlotter - Downgrade Procedure
Spoiler: Show
  • Get an SD (8/16 GB, formatted in FAT32)
  • Unpack the Self-Extracting Archive which will automatically copy the GUPDATE.GCD to the SD (folder X:\Garmin, where X: is the letter assigned to your SD)
  • Make a BackUp of your Data on the Device (Waypoints, Routes, Traces etc), after the Downgrade procedure a Factory Reset is performed.
NOTE: each error in the procedure that follows causes the file GarminDevice.xml to be written to the folder X:\Garmin. Remember to remove this file before making other attempts.
  • Make sure that the device is OFF and insert the SD card into Slot 1 (the one on the left).
It is recommended to remove any SD that were present in Slot 2
  • Press and hold the key UP arrow (UP Arrow) [ONLY x NON Touch devices]
  • Press and hold Power ON button
  • After a few seconds the message "HOLDING BOOT BLOCK" appears on the display, continue holding the 2 keys above
  • After a few seconds the message "SOFTWARE LOADING" appears on the display.
Continue to hold down the 2 keys mentioned above until the message "LOADER READY" appears, from this moment the keys can be released.
  • If the Keys are released BEFORE the "LOADER READY" message appears, the procedure fails (read NOTE above).
  • During the Firmware Downgrade the wording "SOFTWARE LOADING" remains on the display.
  • At the end of the procedure the Device carries out a Factory RESET and then a Reboot.
  • After reboot you need to reset all the settings (Preferences, Language, etc)
Further details for Touch Devices:
I want to clarify that since little attention is paid to touch devices, here is how to proceed:
  • Once the file mentioned in the guide has been downloaded onto the PC, it must be launched. With a double click the software is launched and with an inserted USB stick it will indicate to the software where to copy the extracted files and will indicate the letter that your PC will assign.
  • Once this phase is over we move on to the echo. Switch off the device, insert the SD card into the slot and switch on the device without taking your finger off the Power ON key and once a "LOAD FACTORY RESET" message is displayed, release the button.
  • Press the Power ON button again and the "SOFTWARE LOADING" message should appear, warning you of the start of the update.
  • At the end of the procedure the Device carries out a Factory RESET and then a Reboot.
  • After reboot you need to reset all the settings (Preferences, Language, etc)

For the echoMap models, the ones mentioned on this page: [Please Register or Login to download file]

Hi, I have an echomap chirp 72sv with firmware 4.1
according to Garmin this version was released with 2017.0504 so this map should have worked. I get the error CANT UNLOCK MAPS.

I am not sure but maybe I had sucesfully used exactly this map a year ago on another sd card on the same machine with the same firmware

What could be wrong?
thanks :)

@nick93

Tool gimgunlock-0.04 is not enough to unlock this HD chart for echoMAP CHIRP series.

Here's the fully unlocked HXEU718L v2017.0 for ordinary echoMAPs and CHIRP series:
Code: Select all
https://1fichier.com/?d7rwqjbnrmvp5vlb4g8g

Password: hxeu718l.nick93

Extract all three files to the Garmin directory of your empty SD Card and try ...

In this case, as follows:
• HXEU718L contains a main mapping.
• HXEU718A comprises 1-foot HD fishing contours.
• HXEU718B includes a digital seabed and coastal elevation model.

these files did the trick. worked like a charm. Thanks

Did this also works for echomaps after 2017.0825 ?
Also which tool should I use to fully unlock the locked ones myself?

Thanks again

This works for ordinary echoMAPs and CHIRP series, as well as for legacy GPSMAP only.

Unfortunately, I've not yet come across a such tool in the public domain.

Thank you, of course I read the previous post and I downloaded the map unlocked (latest download link). So I understand that this map unlocked was ok with every firmware. So I need to downgrade firmware Anyway?
Thank you who can clarify what I have to do.
Bye!

No, that unlocked chart will not work with the current firmware of your 722xs, because your device is not legacy GPSMAP and its modern firmware contains a new piracy protection.

Yes it is, if you want that unlocked chart to work ...

Did you manage to downgrade? Is your GPSMAP 722 xs work with unlocked maps?
