Use Garmin Express to update your software then make a back up.
It is really easy to update your nuvi 3790, as these maps are small, just replace the out of date files in the .system folder on the device with these new ones
gmapsupp(8801).rar (after extracting change name to gmapprom.img)
gmap3d(8801).rar
D3531320A(212x234 PhotoReal).rar
D323200(nuvi 3790).rar
ASR 1.0 (8801).rar
G2S (8801).rar
Add this this to your POI folder for the latest

Hi and many many thanks
I sincerely apologise in advance for raising an issue, but as a very small user of Navitotal, I am not aware of the proper process to ask for a correction to a map.
Please excuse me.
Map error
Since a number of years ago, the Queensland roads have changed but the current Garmin route still follows the old highway through the CBD of Brisbane. ( now is M2, M3, etc)
It SHOULD follow the new/renamed M1 all the way to the North coast.
I have attempted to include a Google map pix of the location where the original M1 through the city has been renamed the M3. The correct connection should be to via the (new) M1 all the way along the Gateway Motorway which then turns back into the M1.

There is a major highway from the Gold Coast (for example) to the Sunshine Coast via the GateWay Bridge across the river. This is M1
The last few maps of several years ago still show the route as via the CBD.
Which is not only longer, but also very crowded!
And Yes, toll avoidance is NOT enabled on my (and also others) Nuvi.
If you would like more information - or inform me of the correct process to have this resolved.
Thank you once again,
Martin

Report Map error to Garmin
[Please Register or Login to download file] But I see no error, maybe a setting. Garmin maps route/uses the GateWay Bridge by default

Sorry, my NUVI 760 always wants to follow the M3, tthrough the CBD, then M7 and eventually onto the M1 on the Northern side of Brisbane, no matter if avoid toll roads is on or off, or if set to shortest distance or fastest speed.
Only thought then is that perhaps a supporting file is missing or outdated?
Are there different files for this model (per map) perhaps?
Or have I so confused the system by only replacing the gmapprom.img file over the years?
Current version is 5.40,
GPS SW version is 2.9m
Basemap is Pacific v2.2.00
Will appreciate any assistance.

I don't have a 760 only 765, I just updated it, but there are no data base additional files ,swapping out the gmapprom is the right way to update the device.
I assume in Maps the 2021.30 shows up as installed ?
I would use Garmin Express to make sure everything is up to date ,then back up my favourites(this does not back up recent)
To reset back to factory settings and erase all user data, press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and then power the unit on, a dialog will come up asking if you want to "Erase all user data",
Then use simulation to test again as I did

Hi and thanks.
I had done a reset a while ago, but went through the process again. Garmin Express updated and there was a small update for Bluetooth.
I noted that the GPS SW version went up to 3.0m (from 2.9m)
The very first time I tried that simulated route, it worked correctly. But alas, it was the only time that it did.
Have gone through the reset again several times but with no joy.
Any clues for this behaviour?
Could there be some files that should not be in the /Garmin directory? (There is no /.system directory). There are files in there dated a few years ago.

Update:
Is there a built-in bias to favour some routes over another (not just distance/speed)?
By setting the Garmin at either shortest distance OR fastest time, it my case it always goes via the CBD (M1-M3 etc).
Shortest distance via CBD is 103 Km, and shortest time is 67 minutes.
By setting a waypoint at co-ordinates to force GPS to always go via the M1 and Gateway bridge shows this:
Shortest distance via Gateway is 105 Km, shortest time is 58 minutes.
Hence it "should" pick the Gateway M1 route when set to shortest time -I would think?
NB: Via CBD involves lower speed roads, junctions an many more calculations required. Hence the Gateway should be a simpler route to calculate as well?
Not a problem, just curiosity as to why this happens. And confusion in my (old) mind!
Thank you for your very helpful assistance.

Not all files are updated some can even be dated pre manufacture
So we can eliminate a problem with the maps then.
This sound more like a setting thing what does it say in
Tools/settings/navigation

As gmapdem.img is the the digital elevation file a representation of the terrain, it does not get updated as frequently unlike roads etc .
Hopefully the earths surface does not change significantly in my lifetime
