City Navigator Europe NT 2012.30

Postby bokkie » Sat Jan 14, 2012 5:36 pm

Hi guys. I have a Garmin Nuvi 250 and stumbled upon this site. Could someone please help me to update my Europe Map as I don't have a clue. Or if there is a step by step tutorial could you tell me where it is as I don't want to trash my GPS.
Thx

Please help me, I don't get it running.

I have running mapsource 2010 and I want to update it to version 2012. I have install it but if I run mapsource it says it locked.

I must do this:

1. Copy your IMG file "MAP_Locked" directory

2. Write your map details in MapSetName.txt
MapSetName.txt eg. "Europe (Unlocked)" without quotes (50 characters allowed)
If you want to use the default MapSetName insert a blank first line MapSetName.txt. Or Remove MapSetName.txt
3. Run "UNLOCK MAP DIRECTORY.EXE"

4. Now you have GMAPSUPP.IMG inside "MAP_UnLocked" directory

I must be stupid but I don't see a map called MAP_LOCKED. What must I do?

@bokkie
Download an unlocked image version with less than 2GB. You'd best use the gmapsupp.img file on SD card in a folder Garmin. If you want to use it on internal memory, you have to replace the gmapprom.img file with the downloaded file. The file name can be gmapsupp.img or gmapprom.img.

@gaisdergerman
Sorry I was wrong! If you want to unlock the MapSource version, of course you have to use the MapSource unlcker. But why don't you use an unlocked image version? It's much easier for newbies.

Thx P!xeldealer, but I am really thick abut this. Is there a step by step tutorial as I don't have a clue on what I have to do, Download, replace, etc. I swear I will donate once I have updated to the new maps.
Thx

1. download e.g. from post #1 the Western Europe: UnLocked version. You can mix the files from both hosters, e.g. download part 1 and 3 from filefactory and part 2 and 4 from filesonic - so you get the files much faster.
2. extract the archive with WinRAR or 7zip
3. make a folder Garmin on your SD card and copy the gmapsupp.img file into it
4. start your device and go to the map info menu - there you should see your old map and the new City Navigator Europe NT 2012.30 - deactivate your old map by removing the hook before the map name
- that's all -

When you are sure, that the new map works properly and you want to replace the old map in the internal memory of your device, you can delete the files gmapprom.img and gmapprom.unl (after backup on PC) in the Garmin folder in your device and copy the downloaded gmapsupp.img file into this folder. But before check if there is enough space for the new map (> 2GB).

I went out and bought a 2 gb sd card and the file doesn't fit, I need another 110 mb of space to fit it on there. I tried formatting it but doesn't help Bollocks!
I'll have to go out and buy a 4 gb sd card on the weekend.

There are also smaller versions of the Europe map - it depends what countries do you need!

In #6 is a special version for 2GB cards.

Thx. I just saw the 2gb card versions but On filesonic the file is to big for a free user to download and on wupload the file doesn't exist. Is there somewhere else I can download it from?

That's bad - you can ask the uploader, if he makes a reup. But I think there is no use, because in about 2 weeks probably comes the next version.

Isn't there in #12, #13 or #14 something for you?
