I unlocked the maps in basecamp, if you look in map info in basecamp it said the map was "Not lockable"

You just copied it at the directory where usally mapsource is copying the maps
something like this
C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps\City Navigator Europe NT 2017.10.gmap and from there you use it!
Otherwise if you unlock the map with the old tool any map that you may create with Mapinstall (Basecamp) it should be unlocked again before to use it with the

do i uninstall every thing i installed on the pc and start for scratch?

Not need to unistall just directly try to unlock it with this software or use the unlock to unlock the map after the creation and before usage

Pal your a star!!!
I used the second option and unlocked the maps on the sd card it is now present in the map list on the sat nav and seems to be working fine.
thanks for taking the time out to help, I would of never getting it unlocked without help.

If you have installed the map in sd, how do i do it?
what am i to do with the 4 folders named, cure

First of all tell us what device you are using in order to realise which files do you need!
For what you explained you should downloaded the PC installed map so you have first to install it on your PC with .msi then in Cure directory you will find an executable which will unlock the mapsource map then with Basecamp-Mapinstall you will create a map directly to your device or SD (I hope you know how).

OOps, apologies I use a nuvi 2597 LMT.
What I understand from your post is to run the .msi file which will pick up the files required and ask for a location to install these files and I should choose a drive in the PC(win).
Then run the gimgunlock tool to unlock the maps. which is to place the gimgunlock.exe file in the same folder as the .img file
the .img file can be named to EuropeNT2017.img?
Am I right?

In fact your device as an LMT should have a free Life update map did you tried with Garmin express to updated?
Almost right! In fact you unlock the installed map with this included software it takes some minutes.(The maps on the Mapsource) Then with Mapinstall you create a map on your device or SD with the areas that you are interested for! It will create a gmapsupp.img in a \Garmin directory. Since you have already unlocked the Mapsource file no need again for unlock. When you will transfer your SD on your device should be recognized as a map.

Since you are using this device you I hope that it is already patched otherwise may not recognize unlocked maps you may use also the other files like JCV, 3D etc. on the proper directories meaning where now exist similar files.

PS.In order trhe Mapinstall to recognise your SD card as a device and create the new map before you create on it a \Garmin directory and on the root you copy also the file named GarminDevice.xml

Still stuck, ...where do I attach screen shots?
copy paste does not work...
well PGFT says map is unlocked, but mapinstall states it needs to unlock and the option is to unlock online.
Any place I can send the screenshots to explain the situation better?
I know I am doing some thing which is not correct...but what is it?

traveling to europe...

Do I need besides this map map AdriaRoute 4.40. Is the country Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and other equally covered in the City Navigator Europe NT 2017.10 as well as in AdriaRoute 4.40
